This celebration of life will be a CODE 200 in honor of Tom's many years of dedicated service.

All firefighters attending are requested to wear their Class A dress uniforms or other appropriate formal attire as we come together to honor one of our own.

For over 40 years, Tom Mahaney dedicated his life to loving, serving, and supporting this community. Whether it was answering the call when someone needed help, lending a hand, or simply being there for a neighbor, Tom was always willing to give of himself.

Now it's our turn to show up for him and his family.

Let's come together as a community and show the same love and support that Tom spent more than four decades giving to all of us.

Let's fill the room with familiar faces, shared memories, laughter, and love as we honor a man who made a lasting difference in so many lives.

Tom spent over 40 years answering the call for his community. Now, as we gather to honor his final call, let's show up for him one more time. ❤️🚒

The officers and members of Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service join our brothers and sisters at Middlesex Hose Company in mourning the loss of Tom Mahaney.

In addition to his more than 42 years of dedicated service to the Middlesex Hose Company, Tom was also a longtime member of Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance, serving as a Certified First Responder (CFR) and ambulance driver.

For more than four decades, Tom generously gave his time to help others during their moments of greatest need. His commitment to emergency medical services, his willingness to serve, and his genuine love for the Middlesex community are all part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Tom was one of those individuals who helped make our small community special — someone who understood that volunteer service wasn't simply about responding to calls, but about neighbors taking care of neighbors.

We extend our deepest condolences to Tom's family, friends, and fellow members of Middlesex Hose Company.

Thank you, Tom, for your decades of service, friendship, and dedication to Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance and the community we are so proud to serve.

Rest easy, Tom. Your service will not be forgotten.

Middlesex Ambulance congratulates Brian Winslow on his retirement from the Yates County Office of Emergency Management after 35 years of service to Yates County.

Today, after 35 with Yates County and the last 15 years as the Director of Emergency Services, Brian Winslow is retiring. We thank Brian for all of his years of service and everything that he has done for the emergency services community. We wish him a happy and healthy retirement.

In Loving Memory of Robert "Bob" Mincer

The members of Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance Service join our friends and neighbors in mourning the passing of Bob Mincer, a longtime member of the Middlesex Hose Company who dedicated well over 30 years to serving our community.

Bob’s service to Middlesex extended well beyond the firehouse. Aviation was a lifelong passion. He was the owner and manager of Middlesex Valley Airport and the Pilot's Lounge - a fly in breakfast restaurant. Bob shared his love of aviation with the community and helped introduce future generations to flying.

For decades, Bob was one of those people whose service, knowledge, and presence became part of the fabric of our small community.

We extend our deepest condolences to Pat, Bob’s extended family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the aviation community.

Thank you for your service, Bob. You will be missed.

Where were you when the world changed?

Most of us who were old enough to remember September 11, 2001, can still picture exactly where we were when we first heard that a plane had struck the World Trade Center. We remember the television, the people around us, the confusion—and the moment we realized life would never be quite the same.

Twenty-five years later, think about the other moments in history that are permanently connected to a place and time in your memory. Where were you when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded? When the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly shut down everyday life? Have you lived long enough to remember December 7th 1941? Can you name another event that stopped you in your tracks and made you realize you were watching history unfold?

Where were you on 9/11? What do you remember most? And what changed for you afterward?

Some days become more than dates on a calendar. They become markers in our lives—the world before, and the world after.

AIR QUALITY HEALTH ADVISORY

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to affect our region over the next few days. An Air Quality Health Advisory is in effect for Wednesday, July 15, throughout Yates, Ontario and surrounding counties due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter, known as PM2.5.

A current condition report can be obtained for you specific location from http://www.airnow.gov

Smoke conditions can change quickly throughout the day. Children, older adults and people with asthma, COPD, heart disease or other breathing problems may be especially sensitive.

To reduce your exposure:

• Monitor the local Air Quality Index before spending extended time outdoors.
• Limit strenuous outdoor exercise or work when the air looks or smells smoky.
• Keep windows and doors closed and use air conditioning on recirculate when possible.
• Keep prescribed inhalers and other medications readily available.
• Move indoors if you experience coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or unusual fatigue.

Call 911 for severe difficulty breathing, chest pain or another medical emergency.

Please check on family members, friends and neighbors who may be particularly vulnerable, and continue monitoring local conditions through the remainder of the week.
