A heartfelt thanks to everyone in our community that contributed to the Thanks for Giving: Community Pillowcase Project for Porter Medical Center!

Hundreds of people (from children to seniors) were involved in the project through fabric donations, teaching others how to sew the pillowcases, and donating completed handsewn pillowcases.

We donated 237, which far exceeded our goal of 100! We hope this will bring some comfort and cheer to patients in the Infusion Center.

This November, Quilters’ Corner is partnering with The Makery at the Hannaford Career Center and other local groups to make 100 cozy pillowcases for patients at Porter Medical Center — and we need your help!

How to Get Involved

1. Donate Fabric
Share from your stash! We’re collecting soft, comforting fabrics (like flannel) in solids or prints — no child-themed designs, please. Make sure fabric is clean and free of odors or pet hair.

2. Sew with Us (or Learn to Sew!)
Join us to sew pillowcases — no experience needed! We’ll provide free instruction, sewing machines, and all materials. Sign-up for a time to sew on our website.

3. Drop Off Completed Pillowcases
Already a sewist? Make a few at home and drop them off at Quilters’ Corner anytime in November. Ask us for a free pillowcase pattern if you’d like one!

The Makery at the Patricia A Hannaford Career Center is open!
The Woodshop and Sewing Labs are both open for in-person attendance. Pre-registration is not required; however, it's recommended.
Hours Thursdays from 5 pm - 8 PM.
Woodshop: Bring a project or start a new one. Work independently or pick the brains of one of our mentors. Now's a great time to start making holiday gifts!
Sewing Lab: exciting news, along with our sewing machines we now also have 3 sergers, and large cutting tables. Bring in a project, make a holiday gift item, or collaborate with a mentor about learning to sew.

The Makery at the Hannaford Career Center both the sewing and wood shop will be closed for the summer reopening in September due to construction. We hope to introduce some interesting projects in the fall, as always we welcome you bringing your own projects where if needed mentors can be of assistance.

Jersey Knit Embellishing Workshop / Demo Thursday, May 29, 5:00
Dana Olsen will offer a demo and assist participants to embellish a t-shirt or other knit garment using jersey knit materials. This is a hand-sewing project that uses applique, reverse applique, and other embellishments applied to cotton jersey garments. Cotton jersey knit fabrics are soft and resistant to fraying, making them ideal for applique design. Familiarity with basic hand-sewing techniques is helpful. Participants should bring: a T-shirt or other similar knit garments that they are interested in embellishing. The optional materials to bring are scrap T-shirts for the design, needles, thread, embroidery floss, and sharp scissors for cutting knit fabrics. The Sewing Lab will have some of these optional materials available.

The Makery meets at the Hannaford Career Center every Thursday from 5:00pm-8:00pm.
Join us November 14th for some holiday craft making fun! We will be making felt snow people ornaments, icicles, mug rugs/coasters, card holders, make your own holiday cards, or bring your own crafty idea to share with us.

Thursday, November 7 - Gail will lead an Improv Patchwork class, Create a small patchwork piece that can be used to make a mug rug, pouch, placemat or whatever your imagination can think of.
Thursday, November 14 - Holiday Ornaments - we have some fun easy to make ornaments for your home decor
Thursday, December 5 - Simple to make Gift Bags, Tags, Cards for your holiday needs
Thursday, December 19 - join us for an open house and help us plan for the upcoming year.
