The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival is all about the work of first and second time filmmakers.

The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival [MNFF] was formed to support, promote and exhibit the dynamic and imaginative efforts of new filmmakers. It is our sole focus and it's what we do exceptionally well. The event takes place in scenic Middlebury, Vermont in late August each year. Our first festival rolled out August 27-30, 2015 and our 7th Annual Fest will take place August 25-29, 2021. We antic

ipate having as many as 80 slots available for accepted entries and selections will be made by a panel of judges led by the Festival’s Artistic Director, Jay Craven. We encourage our filmmakers to come to the festival and engage in Q&A sessions with audiences following the screening of their work. We also welcome other distinguished guests to our stages for lively discussions on the craft as well as the art of filmmaking, addressing topics of interest to both our filmmakers and the folks who come to see their films.

MNFF is over the moon to announce the Vermont Premiere of Hadestown: The Musical as our Opening Night Film on Wednesday, August 26 at Middlebury College’s Dana Auditorium. Written by Vermonter and Middlebury College graduate Anaïs Mitchell, Hadestown: The Musical is a brilliantly shot, live recording of the acclaimed musical featuring the 5 original principal cast members.

This exciting event will be followed by a Q&A with Anaïs Mitchell, moderated by MNFF Artistic Director Jay Craven. We will then round off the night with our Opening Night Party, in the Winter Garden at the Axinn Center. Tickets are available at the link in our bio! Please note that Combo Passholders already have Opening Night Tickets built into their pass, and do not need to purchase an additional ticket.

MNFF is excited to announce the arrival of Andy Mitchell as our new Managing Producer! For his work as a Producer, Director, Writer and Director of Photography, Andy has been recognized with 5 Emmys, as well as serving as an Emmy Awards judge for 15 years. Both a Middlebury College and MNFF alum, his deep love for film, Middlebury, and sharing the arts will be a great asset to our team at MNFF and for the community!
