Helping Hands For Heroes At Helping Hands For Heroes, our mission is simple: Serve Those Who Served Us.

Helping Hands For Heroes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending veteran homelessness by restoring dignity, meeting immediate needs, and creating pathways to long-term independence. We are committed to:

✬ Providing safe and stable housing for homeless and at-risk Veterans.
✬ Offering job training and career placement to help Veterans transition successfully into the workforce.
✬ Expanding mental health and wellness programs to support those struggling with PTSD, substance abuse, and other challenges.
✬ Building a strong community that ensures no Veteran is left behind!

Thank you to American Legion Post 197 for welcoming us and allowing us to host the Community Veteran Surge at your post. We’re also grateful to every vendor, community partner, and volunteer who came out and shared valuable resources with local veterans.

Together, we connected veterans with support for housing, healthcare, employment, behavioral health, legal and benefits assistance, transportation, meals, and more. Thank you for showing up for those who served.

Join us for Community Veteran Surge on Friday, October 23! We have 29 vendors confirmed, and it’s shaping up to be a great day for veterans, families, and the community.

Come connect with local organizations and learn about veteran transportation, meals, mobile showers and barber services, housing support, healthcare, employment, behavioral health, legal and benefits assistance, and more.

A haircut can be more than a fresh start. It can be a moment of care, connection, and dignity.

In this video, Army veteran Luke Henry shares his story—from serving in Iraq and other locations to living with complex PTSD and facing challenges with work and housing after medical retirement. He also speaks about the veterans he has lost and the support he has received.

For Edward, reliable transportation means freedom.

Edward Charles Schumacher, better known as “Tuna” during his time in Vietnam, had to stop driving after repeated falls made it unsafe. Without a vehicle, even getting out of the house or buying groceries became difficult.

Through Helping Hands for Heroes’ free transportation program for veterans, Edward can now get where he needs to go safely. Along the way, he has also gained friendship and a driver he describes as a true blessing.

This is why we do what we do. Reliable transportation gives veterans greater access, independence, and dignity.
