Tonight, the Willisville Preservation Foundation celebrated the Willisville Cemetery, and what a beautiful celebration it was! ❤️

It was truly a blessing to celebrate with our family, friends, donors, supporters, and community. It was especially wonderful to finally put faces to so many of the people who continue to support WPF. We could not do what we do without each and every one of you. Your love, generosity, encouragement, and continued support mean more than words can express.

The Willisville Cemetery was one of the final visions of our beloved Founder, Carol Lee. Carol understood the importance of preserving our history, honoring those who came before us, and ensuring that their stories and legacy would never be forgotten. Tonight was another reminder that Carol’s vision continues to live on. ❤️

For the past two years, we have been fortunate and blessed to work under the leadership of our President, Mr. Dulany Morrison. Dulany has worked tirelessly to keep Carol’s vision moving forward and has accomplished so much with WPF during his presidency.

And don’t worry—Dulany isn’t going anywhere! 😊 He will forever remain an integral part of the Willisville Preservation Foundation.

Dulany, thank you so very much for all you have done, all you continue to do, and for your dedication to WPF. We appreciate you! ❤️

Tonight, we also celebrated the transition of WPF leadership to our new President, Ms. Zina Gaskins. Zina, along with our Immediate Past President, Mr. Dulany Morrison, and the entire WPF Board, will continue working together to preserve Carol’s vision, honor her legacy, and continue the important work of the Willisville Preservation Foundation.

A very special thank you to Carol’s mother, Ms. Ann Lee, 99 years young, who traveled all the way from North Carolina with her daughter, Janet, to celebrate with us. Having Ms. Ann there made this special occasion even more meaningful. ❤️

We are also extremely grateful that, through the generosity and support of so many, we now have an “In Memory of Carol Lee” memorial bench that will be placed in the Willisville Cemetery. What a beautiful way to honor the woman whose vision helped make all of this possible. ❤️

To everyone who was able to join us tonight, THANK YOU for showing up, celebrating, and supporting WPF. And to those who were unable to be with us in person, please know that you were not forgotten. We felt your love, your support, and your spirit with us throughout the celebration. Whether you were standing beside us tonight or supporting us from afar, you are an important part of the WPF family, and we are grateful for each and every one of you. ❤️

We look forward to continuing to work with our donors, supporters, families, friends, and community as we move forward together.

And if you are ever in the Willisville area, please stop by and visit the Willisville Cemetery. Come see the history we are working together to preserve.

Carol’s Vision. Carol’s Legacy. Our Commitment to Continue. ❤️

❤️ WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THE WILLISVILLE PRESERVATION FOUNDATION? YOU MAY BE ASKING…

Well, let us tell you—WE HAVE BEEN QUITE BUSY BEHIND THE SCENES! 👀❤️

There has been a tremendous amount of work taking place, particularly at the Willisville Cemetery, and we are so excited to finally share some of the progress with our community, donors, supporters, and friends.

Over the past several months, we have been working diligently to continue the preservation and improvement of this very special and historic place.

We have installed the beautiful new fencing around Willisville Cemetery, completed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) work to help us better understand and document the cemetery grounds, and had a drone flyover completed as another important part of documenting and preserving the cemetery.

We have also been blessed to work closely with the Loudoun Cemetery Conservancy (LCC) under the leadership of its founder, Mr. Al Van Huyck. Their knowledge, guidance, partnership, and commitment to cemetery preservation have been invaluable to us throughout this process.

Just yesterday, we welcomed Mr. Howard Wellman to Willisville Cemetery to help identify and assess the headstones and footstones that are in need of repair, preservation, or restoration. This is another important step as we determine how best to protect these historic markers for generations to come.

And while all of that was happening, we also had the guys hard at work installing the new steps at the entrance to the cemetery! ❤️👏🏽

❤️ WE ALSO HAVE TO RECOGNIZE ONE OF OUR OWN

We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize Mr. Gordon Turner, WPF Member, for his continued hard work and dedication to keeping the landscaping and grounds of Willisville Cemetery maintained and cared for.

Gordon’s commitment goes far beyond cutting grass or maintaining the grounds. His love for Willisville Cemetery and for the Willisville Preservation Foundation can be seen in the time, energy, and care he continuously gives.

Preservation isn’t only about the big projects everyone sees. It is also about the people who consistently show up behind the scenes and make sure these sacred grounds receive the care, dignity, and respect they deserve.

Gordon, we SEE you, we APPRECIATE you, and we THANK YOU for everything you do! ❤️👏🏽

❤️ CAROL’S VISION CONTINUES…

One of our beloved founder Carol Lee’s visions was to see the Willisville Cemetery preserved, cared for, and improved.

Today, we are incredibly proud to say that under the leadership of WPF President Mr. Dulany Morrison, we have accomplished much—if not most—of what Carol envisioned for the cemetery.

Mr. Morrison has done an outstanding job leading the Foundation and making sure that Carol’s vision didn’t simply remain a vision, but continued to come to life. Through his leadership, determination, and commitment, along with the hard work of our WPF members and supporters, we are seeing that vision become a reality right before our eyes.

And trust us…

WE AREN’T FINISHED YET! 😎❤️

We have several more exciting projects in the works that you will be hearing about AND seeing in the coming months. We don’t want to give everything away just yet, so you’ll have to stay tuned! 👀

❤️ NONE OF THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT YOU

As proud as we are of everything that has been accomplished, we could not have done any of it without our donors and supporters.

Every donation, every helping hand, every partnership, every word of encouragement, and every person who believes in the importance of preserving the history of Willisville has helped us continue this work.

We simply cannot say THANK YOU enough.

When you support the Willisville Preservation Foundation, you are helping us do much more than improve a cemetery. You are helping us preserve history, honor our ancestors, protect their final resting places, and ensure that their stories and the history of Willisville are not forgotten.

And through it all, Carol remains with us. ❤️

We know she is watching over us, and she is forever in our hearts every step of the way. We will continue working to keep Carol Lee’s legacy and vision alive while preserving the history of the Willisville community for generations yet to come.

To our WPF Board, donors, supporters, community, friends, and everyone who has helped us along the way…

THANK YOU. ❤️

And one more thing…

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING OUR DONORS AND SUPPORTERS VERY SOON! 👀🥂❤️

Stay tuned—because there is MORE TO COME from the Willisville Preservation Foundation!

We would like to extend a very special THANK YOU to the members of the Willisville Preservation Foundation Board of Directors for your continued dedication, commitment, time, and love for Willisville and its history.

We have accomplished so much, and there is still much more to come. Thank you for continuing to work together to preserve Willisville’s history for generations to come.

Hello Willisville!
We’re excited to give you a sneak peek at some of the projects the Willisville Preservation Foundation (WPF) is currently working on.
Recently, a drone flyover of the Willisville Cemetery captured a series of aerial photographs that provide a new perspective of this historic and meaningful site.
These images will serve an important purpose. The drone flight will help anchor the future identification and documentation of gravestones and footstones as part of the preparation of the Historic Cemetery Strategic Plan.
This work will help ensure the cemetery is carefully documented, preserved, and protected for generations to come.
We’re sharing a few of the photos now and will be posting more images and additional information soon, so stay tuned!

We truly could not have done this without the generous donations and contributions from so many of you—thank you for your continued support.
If you are interested in purchasing a copy of Carol’s book, A Path Through Willisville ($25), please contact Dulany, myself, or any of our Board Members.
