The Middleburg Museum is pleased to collaborate with the Middleburg Community Center and the Middleburg Library Advisory Board for this special event. We invite you to join us on June 18 at the Community Center for an engaging and memorable evening. We look forward to seeing you there!

Join us at 7pm on June 18th - in celebration of Juneteenth for a Meet the Author event with Kevin Grigsby, Discussing his new book, ‘A Story of Hope and Freedom: The Proctors of Loudoun and Fauquier Counties, Virginia’

Grigsby chronicles the Proctor family’s resiliant journey through the horrific perils of slavery and their struggles as free people of color in Virginia before the civil war, and decades after.

This event will surely be a powerful recounting of local history highlighting triumphs and tragedy, love and difficult choices, and the enduring power of family.

This event is a collaboration between the Middleburg Library, the Middleburg Museum and the Middleburg Library Advisory Council. Please visit our website to RSVP at middleburgcenter.org/attend

As part of VA250, this is an event not to be missed. Join The Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association in celebrating the life, legacy, and lasting influence of George Mason.

Born on December 11, 1725, George Mason was a Founding Father and one of only three delegates who refused to sign the U.S. Constitution, believing it did not provide sufficient protections for individual liberties.

Mason’s authorship of the Virginia Declaration of Rights helped shape the principles that later became the United States Bill of Rights, securing his place as one of the nation’s most influential advocates for individual freedom and limited government.

Join us as we commemorate Mason’s 300th birthday and explore his profound impact on liberty, constitutional rights, and American democracy.

We're less than a week away from our upcoming program at historic Selma in Leesburg! Join us this Sunday, June 7th, for an engaging afternoon exploring the legacy of George Mason, one of Virginia's most influential Founding Fathers.

The lands that became Selma were purchased in 1741 by Ann Thomson Mason, mother of George Mason. Over time, the property passed through generations of the Mason family before Armistead Thomson Mason established Selma in 1810. Through Civil War raids, fire, and decades of change, Selma has endured as a remarkable link to Virginia's past, making it the perfect place to reflect on the people and ideas that shaped the Commonwealth in its earliest years.

We hope you'll join us for an afternoon of history, conversation, and a deeper appreciation of George Mason's enduring legacy in Virginia and the nation.

Tonight we give a humble nod and tip our hats in heartfelt appreciation to our good friend and Board Member, Tucker Withers. He was often one of the very first people you met when you moved to town — welcoming you warmly, asking where you were from, sharing a story or two, and before long, making you feel completely at home among the group.

Tucker was a joy to spend time with: a tremendous fountain of local history, deeply dedicated to the museum and to the community he loved so much. He was a true gentleman and a friend to all — always ready for anything, especially a good time.

He was truly one of a kind — a good man who lived life fully and entirely on his own terms. We will miss him greatly: his stories, his humor, and his friendship. But whenever we think of Tucker and the memories he shared with us, it will bring a smile to our faces — and that is exactly what he would have wanted.

Quite a person. Quite a legacy.

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to experience history right here in our own small and historic town! In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States, and in coordination with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts the Middleburg Community Charter School proudly presents:
✨ “Voices of Liberty: Art, History, and the American Spirit” ✨
This traveling art exhibition explores the American ideal first expressed in the Declaration of Independence — “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” — which founded a nation on the promise of “inalienable” rights, a promise that has endured for 250 years. The exhibition includes 14 works of art — paintings, prints, and decorative objects.
