MICA is happy to finally see this long-sought sidewalk installation on NYSRT25, heading eastward from the SE corner of SCRT21. This completes a missing portion that forced pedestrians to walk in the traffic lane for years!

Enjoy two informative tours and learn about the American Patriots and other notables buried at these local historic cemeteries: Old Baptist in Coram and Union in Middle Island. We will also celebrate the amazing restoration work done by volunteers who have been Saving Local History in honor of America's 250th Anniversary! No need to register. Rain date is Sun, Oct 25th.

Middle Island Civic Association Meeting Notice

THURSDAY, October 15th, 2026 at 7:00 PM

Meet the Candidates Night in Partnership with the Greater Gordon Heights Civic Association – Part Two:

Candidates for NYS Senate District 1, NYS Assembly Districts 2 & 3, SC Clerk, and the NY First US Congressional District were invited. Thus far six candidates are confirmed: Anthony Palumbo, Chris Murray, Joe DeStefano, Josh Sluaghter, Jodi Giglio, and Chris Gallant.

This will NOT be a debate. We will use our “Friendly Forum” format begun more than a decade ago by MICA’s late past president Tom Talbot. Each candidate will have a certain number of minutes –tbd, usually about ten minutes — to speak and perhaps answer a few questions from members in good standing. All attendees are expected to behave respectfully.

MICA held a Dinner Night Out at the new Side Door Social restaurant here in Middle Island on Thursday, October 1st. Twenty-five people enjoyed great food, service and camaraderie. Best wishes to owner Kevin Muller on this wonderful new venture!

Please join us for this year’s Gold Star Families Day Recognition Ceremony, to be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 1:00pm at Bartlett Pond Park in Middle Island.

As those of you who have previously attended well know, this is a very poignant event, one of the few held on Long Island. This is traditionally a smaller, briefer ceremony than Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and we gather near the Gold Star monument.

We are grateful to be able to continue this important tradition. We must not forget the sacrifices of our Gold Star families and their loved ones.
