Woman Arrested in Massage Parlor Raid

Suffolk County Police yesterday arrested a woman for unauthorized practice of a profession during a massage parlor raid in Middle Island.

Seventh Precinct Crime Section officers, in conjunction with the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal and Code Enforcement Inspectors, conducted an investigation into Evolve Spa, located at 831 Middle Country Road, at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Qin Zhao, 42, of New York, New York, was arrested and charged with two counts of Unauthorized Practice of a Profession, a felony; and Prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Zhao was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

6th Precinct Coffee with a Cop - Friday, August 28th, 11am-12:30pm at Cella Bagels, 1198 MCR, Selden. Great chance to speak with local officers and Command Staff about any problems while enjoying some free coffee and great bagels!

At some time in the near future, we anticipate that Representatives from Breslin Realty will formally present their plans for “The Meadows at Artist Lake,” a mixed-use development at the long-blighted former Kmart parcel on the north-side of Middle Country Road across from Artist Lake. Unfortunately, they had to cancel their July presentation at the last minute and are unavailable on August 20th.

Because the NYS Pine Barrens Commission has determined this to be a Development of Regional Significance, we will probably schedule a Special Meeting in the larger Community Room at Longwood Public Library for this important discussion. The public is welcome to learn, question, suggest and comment, respectfully, of course. Please read the history of development ideas for this location at

June 2026: Representatives from Breslin Realty will formally present the plans for a mixed-use development known as The Meadows at Artist Lake at the July 16, 2026 Middle Island Civic meeting at 7pm at the Longwood Public Library. Middle Island - more land preserved tonight at our town board meeting.

The town board voted unanimously on acquiring another nearly 1-acre parcel of land within the 5-10 year groundwater contributing area for the nearby Carmans River. This property will be added the surrounding 25-acre Town owned open space parcel and nearly 100 acres of County preserved land located in the Core of the Central Pine Barrens.

This acquisition is in keeping with the Town’s commitment to the goals of the Town adopted 2013 Carmans River Conservation and Management Plan which set a series of goals to enhance and further protect the Carmans River – a Brookhaven Town ecological treasure.

“Just Sixties” to Headline Third Final Free Concert & America 250 Event on Saturday, August 22nd at MIFD
