OUR SECOND ROUND OF OPEN AUDITIONS FOR ALL DANCERS!!!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2025

The Elite Corps de Ballet of Long Island is proud to announce open auditions for their 18th annual production of The Nutcracker.
Set to the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky, this beloved holiday classic will be brought to life under the guidance of award-winning choreographer Christopher Brian Nachtrab, a current professional dancer with The San Francisco Opera Ballet & The Metropolitan Opera Ballet. Come and see what all the excitement and magic is about. Auditions are open to ALL dancers across Long Island, who are currently enrolled in ballet/ dance lessons! Please arrive early for the audition, as there will be necessary paperwork to be filled out - make sure to bring a recent photograph for audition files (if this is your first audition for ECB). Students should be prepared to take an appropriate ballet/ dance class and audition for various roles. Proper attire is mandatory for the audition (any color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes & pink pointe shoes for those who have had previous pointe training).
Performances are anticipated for January 4, 2026, at Noel Ruiz Theater in Oakdale

This year we will be offering a second audition date in order to cast our youngest performing dancers as well as to create another opportunity to audition dancers who may have missed the first audition. Please note that our choreographer will only be present at the first audition, at which time they will be looking to cast principal roles for the show. Dancers from the first audition may also be asked for a “call back audition” on September 20th.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:

A TRULY WONDERFUL NUTCRACKER

15 years ago, I dreamt of forming an organization, The Elite Corps de Ballet of Long Island, that would inspire my students and dancers throughout Long Island to come together. I wanted young dancers to experience the magic of The Nutcracker ballet like I had as a child, when I would annually see New York City Ballet’s production each holiday season. Sitting backstage this year I was in tears watching dancers who had once performed as mice and angels – now dancing leading roles. To me, The Nutcracker is about tradition, growth and a shared experience that can be shared by us all.

Although The Nutcracker season is over, it is far from forgotten and I am so very thankful to everyone who has helped make our production successful. This year’s show was amazing. I cannot believe that the students who started rehearsals in October were the same performers who danced on stage this past weekend. Every member of the company has improved and has given 100% of their effort and talent towards the performance.

The Elite Corps de Ballet of Long Island is so lucky to have graduates who come back to showcase their talents. ECB alumni: Kathleen, Maria and Julia danced beautifully and gave up part their holiday vacation to dance in our show.

I am so grateful to the wonderful men who helped on-stage and off-stage as Party Dads and Stage Crew. They are amazing. We couldn’t do the show without Angelo, Steve, Andy and Nate. You men are much appreciated.

The whole company owes so much to Mr. Brendan for his continued years of volunteering. His acting and his wit add so much to the production. My son, Brendan selflessly gives up his weekends throughout the Autumn to help rehearse the children and he is such an asset.

Our choreographer, my son Christopher, continuously comes back to Long Island to help us fine-tune our performance (this year after beginning work as a tenured dancer with San Francisco Opera, before beginning work with the Metropolitan Opera). His professional career includes Richmond Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, San Francisco Opera Ballet, Dayton Ballet, The Metropolitan Opera and the Washington National Opera. We are so fortunate that he gives up his time to help our children…not many professionals would do so much to help young dancers without any compensation.

I am so happy to have conceived the idea for The Elite Corps de Ballet of Long Island, and to have watched it grow and flourish and look forward to its continued success. I want to thank CM Performing Arts Center for allowing us to use their beautiful theater. The friendship with them is so important to me and to my family. They have made the Noel S Ruiz Theater our company’s home.
