The Granville Heritage Society became defunct for years out of lack of interest. People stopped showing up for meetings. People stopped participating. When the second Quaker house was demolished to make way for a Dunkin'Donut parking lot (which never materialized - the only relic left from that is a pedestrian crossing now going to an empty lot!), the people of Granville were so outraged, so motivated to have an organization that would monitor the possibility of such a horror from reoccurring, that the original president of the Granville Heritage Society felt moved to reinstate the organization. To update it, this page was created. Membership wasn't overwhelming, but enough to make a good start. Right from the beginning, however, the members began to not show up every month, and attendance declined to nothing, very quickly. The day he was the only person to come to a meeting, he knew that even the highly charged emotions following that Quaker House destruction couldn't be maintained to sustain this organization.
The former president no longer lives in Granville. If anyone else is interested in reinstating the GHS, please post something about it, here. Someone who would be willing to take a leadership role is an absolute necessity. Anyone with ideas for how membership could be built up and maintained would also be important. This organization has a lot of support in theory, but actual attendance and participation has been lacking.
I urge and encourage anyone with serious interest in reviving the GHS to bring their ideas, and their willingness to participate, to these pages!
