The Self Sufficiency Project

The Self Sufficiency Project Transitioning Haitian youth from an orphanage to self sufficient living through education and training. SSP will give them opportunity to be self sufficient.

We are an ALL VOLUNTEER staff working together toward a solution for the poverty in Haiti. Our project is broken up into 4 phases over the course of 10 years. SSP is committed to teaching, training and equipping young Haitians how to plant crops, teach animal husbandry and to live in community on their own land. They have grown up together in an orphanage but were not taught skills to sustain them

selves. At 18, they are obligated to leave and are released to the harsh, impoverished streets scrambling to find one of the few remaining humanitarian organizations left in Haiti in order to survive. We start with 10 young Haitians and end with 37 young Haitians. This farm is an answer to poverty for them now and in the future, they could grow to be as large as 100-150 or more people as they marry and have families. This farm will sustain them for generations to come. Many hands make light work. Do you have skills in agriculture, animal husbandry, or have a heart to help people? Would you like to come to Haiti and work along side the Haitians, teaching and training? Can you donate money toward this project? Do you want to leave the earth better than when you came? Please link arms with us, we need YOU.

Our Story

We are an ALL VOLUNTEER staff working together toward a solution for the poverty cycle in Haiti. The Self Sufficiency Project (SSP) offers interest free student loans to Haitian youth giving opportunities for high education so that they can plug into the market place and find work for self sufficient living. At 18, they are obligated to leave their orphanage and are released to the harsh, impoverished streets with no skills, scrambling to find one of the few remaining humanitarian organizations left in Haiti in order to survive and will remain dependent on hand outs. SSP will give them opportunity to be self sufficient. The student loans are interest free enabling them to enroll in academically prestigious universities and learning institutions which gives them first choice in the job market. SSP also offers no interest small business loans to assist those marketable ideas so that the Haitian economy will be stimulated in addition to promoting self sufficiency to the youth. A hand UP not a hand out. A solution to the poverty cycle. Changing the world one child at a time.
