A couple of weeks ago, MCMA Vice President Taylar Scott was on her way to try the new MASHAWEE GRILL when she spotted local building owners Nancy and Ray planting a ginkgo tree in an empty sidewalk space in front of their building near J & K Flower Co. Seeing them take the initiative to add a little more green to their block sparked an idea.

At our latest meeting we voted to use some of the remaining Plant Grant funds to help cover the cost of the ginkgo and at least three more trees Nancy and Ray plan to plant. The additional trees will fill empty sidewalk spaces along their block infront of The Brew Box and in front of St Paul Lutheran Church.

At MCMA, weโ€™re glad to work alongside local businesses and community partners to make the Uptown Arts District a more welcoming, lively, and beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Thank you, Nancy and Ray, for caring for your block and helping Franklin Street grow greener. ๐ŸŒณ

This is what pride in our downtown looks like! ๐ŸŒณ

Building owners Ray and Nancy saw an empty sidewalk space in front of their building and took it upon themselves to fill it with a new tree.

Their investment goes beyond their own property. It adds life to the block, strengthens our downtown and shows how much they care about Michigan City.

A little cooler air has us realizing just how quickly summer is slipping away, and it has us looking back at one of our favorite ways we wrapped up the season downtown. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŽถ

On September's First Friday, we closed out the ๐‘ญ๐’Š๐’“๐’”๐’• ๐‘ญ๐’“๐’Š๐’…๐’‚๐’š ๐‘บ๐’–๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’†๐’“ ๐‘บ๐’†๐’“๐’Š๐’†๐’” with an evening of live music, art, and entertainment along Franklin Street.

A huge thank you to Robert Rolfe Feddersen, Ry Lynn, Maelstrโ€™m & AriesSon Art for sharing their talents with our community and helping bring the Uptown Arts District to life for our First Friday: Summer Send Off!

And thank you to everyone who came downtown to listen, watch, wander, shop, grab dinner, and spend part of their Friday evening with us. These are the kinds of nights that remind us what can happen when local artists, businesses, and the community come together.

Summer may be winding down, but weโ€™re already looking forward to more opportunities to activate the UAD and support the creative community that makes the Uptown Arts District special.
