Volunteers,

Thank you for making our Volunteer Appreciation Night such a wonderful success! 💚

We had an incredible turnout celebrating the amazing people who give their time and energy to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, and we are so grateful for everything you do to support the park and our community. Your dedication truly makes a difference every day.

We loved getting the opportunity to celebrate you in person, and we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Didn't get the chance to attend? That's okay! Check out the photos here: https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/0390f053371d46679d5fd6cd2e05f92a

Many thanks to Felipe Soto-Adames for kicking off this season's Friends of Paynes Prairie Third Thursday Speakers Series with a wonderful presentation on the Florida State Collection of Arthropods (FSCA).

The collection is an ever growing resource library that holds some 14 million specimens with many more millions awaiting curation.

The FSCA supports the agriculture industry by identifying insects with a focus on those that may cause problems for farmers and the general public. By appointment, you can tour the collection.

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park has been a landmark of North Florida for centuries.

The park was once home to Seminole communities, Spanish ranches and even a lake where steamboats crossed.

Running right through it is the Gainesville–Hawthorne State Trail, a 16-mile path built along a historic railroad corridor. What was once a “trader’s path” and later a rail line is now one of Florida’s most scenic routes.
