Modern map showing the area of the Battle of Micanopy (by Gulf Archaeology Research Institute). The blue line represents the military road that linked Ft. Defiance (Micanopy) to Ft. Oaklands or McIntosh's plantation. The road cut across Lake Tuskawilla because it had completely drained at one time.

A Seminole, brass rolled "Kaskaskia Point" arrow head, 4.8 inches in length, found at the Battle of Micanopy site. Both Creeks and Seminoles used this type of arrow head. A wonderful find by Gulf Archaeology Research Institute.

One of the lead bullets recovered from the recent archaeological dig investigating the Battle of Micanopy. Gulf Archaeology Research Institute conducted their investigation for the National Battlefield Protection Program. Bullets like this one were frequently encased in what is termed a concretion layer, due to the mineralization of the soil and being buried since 1836.

2nd Seminole War re-enactors dressed in the winter blue uniforms of the period (1835-1842). Ages of enlisted men actually ranged between 14 (or even younger) to 65 as Army recruiters, in league with examining physicians, ignored regulations whenever they were hard pressed to deliver recruits to the field.
