hello everyone, we have an unfortunate update about one of our long time sanctuary residents. our precious little lady, mildred, has passed 💔 we have recently had an issue with keeping rat snakes out of the enclosures, and we unfortunately believe one may have caused her death.
mildred, along with dudley and two other girls, were our sanctuary’s second rescue. the four were found dumped on the side of the road in a box. dudley was fiercely defensive of his girls, and mildred was a total firecracker who kept him in line. mildred always had beef with the bigger ducks at the sanctuary, and frequently had to be “held back” by dudley during her arguments at the fence.
mildred was a happy, lively girl who enjoyed spending her days in the pool with her husband, dudley. we can proudly say that dudley fiercely defended his wife from the snakes, leaving them with some serious battle wounds.
mildred also loved watermelon, digging in puddles on rainy days, her black swimming tub, and mildly beating on dudley (don’t worry, he enjoyed it). we are happy to have been able to give our spicy girl the life she deserved.
dudley and all of our team loved mildred dearly, and her passing has been heartbreaking. she was buried next to her sworn enemy, chang sao, where she can spend her afterlife trying to fight her through a fence as much as she pleases.
with dudley being left solo in his half of the enclosure, we decided to test out having him and the other ducks in one big area together; after a day or two of some bickering between him and vernon, things seem to be going great! we are happy to see that dudley is able to find some comfort with the rest of our duck residents during such a sad time. we apologize for the delay in posting as we mourn mildred, and we will be resuming regular uploads soon :)
