Here comes August! Back to the grind.

This month’s issue features the Barros Strauss family, newlywed couple whose journey reflects the energy and entrepreneurial spirit of Miami. As restaurateurs, they’ve made their mark in Little River, with popular wine bar Magie, and soon to be Bar Fideo, they are bringing creativity, passion, and a strong sense of community to one of Miami’s most exciting neighborhoods. Their story is a reminder that behind every local business is a dream, a family, and a commitment to creating something meaningful.

We also take a closer look at one of our community’s most beloved gathering places: the Legion Park Farmers Market and have a sit down with Urban Oasis Project’s founder, Art Friedrich.

For years, this weekly tradition has been more than a destination for fresh produce, artisan finds, and local flavors, it has become a place where all neighbors become friends, families gather, and the true spirit of the Upper East Side comes alive. It is a beautiful example of how community is built, not through grand gestures, but through the simple moments we share again and again.

Everything feels a little better beneath a canopy of trees.

Working on recent stories for Upper East Side Living brought me back to one of my favorite local traditions: the Legion Park Farmers Market. It became a place my family visited often during the pandemic.

There’s always something calling your name, artisan breads, homegrown produce, homemade specialties, and all kinds of delicious finds. Açaí bowls, fresh juices, crunchy granola, creamy labneh, arepas, barbecue… every visit offers something new while celebrating the same commitment to fresh, farm-to-table goodness. There are also so many artisanal finds like one of a kind jewelry, clothing, soaps, lotions and potions…

The market has grown over the years, but what hasn’t changed is the sense of community. It brings together neighbors from all walks of life in a setting that’s both vibrant and peaceful. Add in a yoga class, live music, a beautiful playground for the kids, and a picnic overlooking the bay, and you have the perfect Saturday staycation. All year long.

In our August issue, look for our interview with Art Friedrich, Executive Director of the Urban Oasis Project, the organization that manages Legion Park Farmers Market and works to make fresh, healthy food accessible to everyone.
