Empowering all children and youth in Overtown to reach their full potential through education, leadership, and community support.

In 2012, the Overtown Children and Youth Coalition (OC*C) was formed by the anchoring community-based nonprofit organizations in the Overtown Community: Urgent, Inc., Overtown Youth Center, Touching Miami with Love, Lotus House, and Dress for Success with the support of the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency and City of Miami District 5 City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones. Within months, additional stakeholders joined and worked together under the umbrella of Overtown Children and Youth Coalition. The groundbreaking step towards addressing the needs of Overtown’s children and families with a collective impact and systems-level approach instead of a service-based structure with needs addressed in siloes was well-received by the community. OC*C continues to serve as the backbone organization to support anchoring community-based organizations to empower Overtown as a community where all children and youth reach their full potential.

OVERTOWN, IT'S OUR TIME! We're officially SIX WEEKS away from GIVE MIAMI DAY 2026, and we're calling on our entire community to SHOW UP and SHOW OUT! At the Overtown Children & Youth Coalition, we know that lasting change doesn't happen alone. It takes a village. It takes partnership. It takes people who believe in the power and potential of Overtown. From investing in our youth and creating pathways to opportunity to strengthening the organizations doing the work every single day, THIS is what collective impact looks like!

And on November 19th, we're taking it even further.

Registered to vote? Great. Now, do you know what’s actually on your ballot? 🗳️ October 5th is Florida’s voter registration deadline for the November 3rd General Election, so first things first: make sure you’re registered.

Then comes Step 2: getting informed.

We know researching every race, candidate platform and amendment can feel overwhelming, especially for busy families. That’s why our next Conversation Wednesday: Know Your Ballot will create a space for our community to come together, ask questions and better understand what they’ll see when it’s time to vote.

And we want you to help shape the conversation. What do you want to understand better? What questions do you have about your ballot, the candidates or the amendments? Drop your questions in the comments or submit them when you RSVP so our discussion reflects what our community actually wants to know.

Joy is impact, too. 💛 It’s in the smile of a child opening a book. The excitement of discovering something new. The freedom to dance, create, build, learn and simply be a kid. These moments may look small, but they tell a much bigger story.

Through the work of our partners and the support of our community, young people across Overtown are gaining access to experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, create connection and open doors to what’s possible. And sometimes, impact looks exactly like this: happy kids, full hearts and a community pouring into its next generation.

As we begin our journey toward Give Miami Day, we’re celebrating the people, partnerships and moments that remind us why this work matters. Because when we invest in Overtown’s youth, we invest in Overtown’s future.

Some conversations don’t just inform a community. They serve it. 🧠💙 That’s exactly what Brain Health is Wealth did.

Healthcare professionals, caregivers, families and community leaders came together for an open conversation about Alzheimer’s, dementia, caregiver burnout, healthcare equity and the questions too many families are left to navigate alone. Experts shared knowledge, caregivers shared lived experiences, resources were shared and our community left better equipped to care for themselves and the people they love.

A huge thank you to Dr. LaToya Lewis, our panelists, partners, caregivers and everyone who made this powerful gathering possible. Now, the challenge is to keep the information moving: tell 10 people something you learned.

Think about who you were as a teenager. Who was the adult who made a difference? Someone who saw something in you before you could see it yourself. Maybe a teacher, a coach, a mentor, a neighbor or someone who just listened?

Our latest Collective Impact conversation explored a future defined by rapidly changing technology, skills and workplaces. But Eric Shepherd brought us back to something much more human: “It’s the people that make a difference.”
