A Night to Remember 💜

What a terrific turnout for the inaugural WiE Philadelphia Chapter event! We were thrilled to welcome 29 incredible women from across the eyecare industry for an evening of connection, conversation, and community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this first event so special. Your energy, support, and enthusiasm made the evening truly memorable.

We’re so excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing to bring women in eyecare together, inspire one another, and build meaningful connections.

In a recent interview with , WiE member Leslie Scher, OD () explains the key differences between a comprehensive eye exam and a standard vision screening.

A vision screening can be a useful first step, but a comprehensive eye exam evaluates much more, including binocular vision, ocular health, and other factors that may go undetected in a basic screening.

For children, comprehensive eye exams are especially important for identifying vision concerns early and guiding interventions such as myopia management.

We’re proud to see Dr. Leslie sharing her expertise and helping raise awareness about the importance of comprehensive eye care.

Ok Love Myopia Control Experts recently welcomed 15-year-old Shrea as the newest intern in her practice. After years as a patient, Shrea developed a genuine curiosity about eye care, especially myopia management, and now has the opportunity to experience the profession from the other side of the exam
room.

Every future eye care professional starts somewhere, and sometimes, all it takes is someone who believes in their potential.

Who knew an eye exam could involve so many different pairs of glasses? 👓

In this post, Dr. Dana Shannon walks through some of the specialized tools used during an eye exam, from trial frames and flippers to polarized and red-green glasses. While they may look a little unusual, each one plays an important role in evaluating how your eyes work, not just how clearly you see.

It’s a great reminder that a comprehensive eye exam is about much more than finding the right prescription 👁️✨
