Families of adults with Intellectual, Developmental, and Other Related Disabilities have always dreamed of a place where their loved ones can live independently while surrounded by support, opportunity, and a true sense of belonging.⁠

At Casa Familia, that dream is becoming a reality. But our story isn’t finished.⁠
⁠
This September, we’ll welcome new residents to the Gardens at Casa Familia, while construction continues on the Residences at Casa Familia, four specialized homes designed for adults with high support needs, providing 24/7 care in a safe, community-centered environment.⁠
⁠
With $1.95 million left to raise by the end of this year, we’re entering the final chapter of our Capital Campaign to complete Casa Familia Kendall.⁠

Casa Familia Kendall is a first-of-its-kind, innovative community-based housing model in Miami-Dade County for adults with Intellectual, Developmental, and Other Related Disabilities.⁠

The campus is made up of three thoughtfully designed developments: The Village of Casa Familia, The Gardens at Casa Familia, and The Residences at Casa Familia.⁠
⁠
At the heart of it all is our 11,000-square-foot Community Center — a shared space designed to bring residents together through programming, wellness, recreation, friendship, and everyday community life.⁠
⁠
Together, they create a connected community where residents can live with greater independence, dignity, support, and belonging. 🏠❤️

One year ago, Casa Familia lost one of its founding visionaries, Tom Whitehurst.⁠
⁠
Tom was there from the very beginning, helping ask the question that would shape Casa Familia’s mission: “What’s going to happen when we’re gone?”⁠
⁠
That question became a vision.⁠
That vision became a Village.⁠
And today, that Village is home.⁠
⁠
Although Tom passed away before he could see residents move in and life at Casa Familia fully begin, his heart, hope, and determination helped make this community possible.⁠
⁠
Today, the Whitehurst Family’s legacy continues to welcome everyone who walks through our doors. The Community Center Foyer is dedicated in Tom’s honor, and his grandson’s dedication of the Serenity Suite serves as another lasting reminder of the love, compassion, and vision their family has shared with Casa Familia.

Thank you, Tom. Your legacy lives here and will continue to inspire all who call Casa Familia home. 🏠️❤️

What began around a kitchen table became a movement, and today, it is a community where our residents can live with independence, belonging, and support.⁠

We were honored to celebrate the Ribbon Cutting of The Village of Casa Familia alongside our founders, families, partners, supporters, and community leaders who helped make this dream a reality. Most of all, we celebrated the moment our “Potential Residents” officially became Casa Familia residents!⁠
⁠
As Mayor Daniella Levine Cava shared, Casa Familia is “a model for the nation and for the world.”⁠
⁠
And we are just getting started. 🏠️❤️

Casa Familia was built from a fear so many families of individuals with Intellectual, Developmental, and Other Related disabilities know deeply: What will happen when I’m no longer here?

Today, that question has become a home rooted in community, independence, and belonging.

Through dedication opportunities, families, individuals, supporters, and organizations can create a lasting legacy within Casa Familia — honoring a loved one, marking a meaningful moment, or becoming part of a mission that will continue changing lives for generations to come.
