STRONG. OUTshine Film Festival is committed to its mission: to inspire, entertain, and educate the public, encourage a sense of community through international and culturally diverse film, video, and other media that offer historical a

nd contemporary perspectives on the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender experience. The Miami Edition has grown from a 3-day event in which twenty-five films were presented to the current format of 10-days with 80+films. The Fort Lauderdale Edition has recently grown from a 3-day event to a two weekend event showcasing 60+ films. We present programming throughout the year:
• OUTshine’s Big Night OUT – an Oscar Simulcast Gala
• Free Monthly Community Screenings on the 2nd Tuesday of Every Month
• Monthly GLOW Screenings on the 3rd Thursday of Every Month
• Partnered events with other Non-Profit, Community, and Arts & Culture Organizations throughout the year. OUTshine Film Festival is an internationally acclaimed event serving as a platform for numerous World, North American, and East Coast Premiers. OUTshine is also one of the largest LGBTQ+ cultural arts event in South Florida.

🏆 TEDDY Jury Award Winner at Berlinale 2026, Trial of Hein is a strange, stylish and deeply q***r story about identity, memory and the places we once called home.

🎥 After years away, Hein returns to his isolated island village — only to discover no one believes he is who he says he is. To prove it, he’s forced to undergo a bizarre three-day trial. 🎬

The story has a deeply personal connection to director Kai Stänicke’s own q***r experience. Stänicke has explained that the screenplay grew partly from realizing after coming out that his memories of childhood sometimes differed from those of his family and friends. Because he had processed his sexuality privately, those experiences shaped how he remembered his past. That idea became central to Hein’s journey: returning home to discover that his version of the past doesn’t quite match everyone else’s.
