At FoMA, we know every shelter pet in Miami-Dade County is waiting for the same thing...

A family to call their own.

Right now, shelters and rescues across our community are full of dogs and cats hoping someone will choose them. Puppies and kittens, adults and seniors, big dogs and small dogs — all waiting for a chance to leave shelter life behind and become part of a family.

Choosing adoption changes more than one life. It gives a homeless pet a second chance and creates critically needed space for another animal who may be waiting to come through the shelter doors.

By adopting and supporting our local shelter and rescue partners, we can help ease overcrowding and give more pets the opportunity to find the safe, loving homes they deserve.

Your new best friend may already be waiting for you.

Dylan’s second chance took a community. 💙🐾

When Dylan was at with severe pneumonia and facing an urgent euthanasia deadline, a network of supporters stepped in quickly to help get him the care he needed.

After several weeks of treatment, dedicated fosters and advocates supported his recovery and helped connect him with his forever family.

Today, Dylan is healthy, adopted, and thriving alongside his new human sister, Charlotte. His story is a reminder of what’s possible when shelters, veterinary teams, fosters, advocates, and adopters come together.

That spirit of collaboration is at the heart of FoMA’s work for Miami-Dade’s shelter pets.

Ten years of compassion, community, and changing lives. 💙🐾

Lynda Gordon has been part of Friends of Miami Animals Foundation from the very beginning. What started with a call from a friend and a simple “Of course!” became a decade of helping Miami-Dade’s pets and the people who love them.

Today, Lynda is proud to look back at how far we’ve come and even more inspired by what we can accomplish together in the years ahead.

One of the biggest challenges in animal welfare starts long before a pet enters a shelter. 🐾🧡🏡

When asked about the biggest challenges facing our community, FoMA Founder and President Yolanda Berkowitz highlighted a critical need: access to affordable veterinary care, pet food, and resources that help families keep their pets healthy and at home.

By investing in prevention, we can keep more pets with the families who love them and reduce the number entering shelters.

As Friends of Miami Animals Foundation celebrates 10 years of impact, we remain committed to addressing the root causes of pet homelessness and creating long-term solutions for our community.

Help us continue this work. Visit the link below to get involved and support FoMA's mission. As part of our 10-year celebration, join our $10 for 10 initiative and donate $10 to help pets and the families who love them. 🐾

Sometimes all a dog needs is a chance to exhale. 💙

After nearly two years in the shelter, Frank finally got the opportunity to decompress in a foster home—and he’s showing just how special he is.

Frank is smart, energetic, eager to learn, and happiest when he has something to do. He’s potty trained, walks beautifully on a leash, loves car rides, respects household boundaries, and is especially devoted to his toys—his ball is a favorite.

Like many working-breed dogs, Frank will thrive with a family who understands that he needs more than a backyard. He’s looking for an adopter who can give him plenty of playtime, structured walks, ongoing enrichment, and the mental and physical activity that will keep him engaged and fulfilled.

Frank has so much to offer the right home. He just needs someone ready to give that energy, intelligence, and enthusiasm the outlet they deserve.

Could that be you?

Consider adopting Frank—or opening your home to foster another shelter pet. Tap the link in our bio to learn more.

Swipe through to learn the facts, clear up common myths, and understand why sterilizing our pets matters now more than ever. 💙
