The late Tom Keane was born 95 years ago today. Keane was the only member of Don Shula's coaching staff who was a holdover from the original Miami Dolphins staff led by George Wilson in 1966. A former NFL defensive back from 1948 to 1955, Keane coached defensive backs and special teams for the Dolphins from 1966 to 1985. He played a huge role in implementing Bill Arnsparger's sophisticated zone defense. During that time, the Dolphins had one of the best secondaries in football, led by All Pro safeties Dick Anderson, Jake Scott along with cornerbacks Tim Foley, Curtis Johnson and Lloyd Mumphord. Keane was a part of all 5 Dolphin Super Bowl teams, including the championship teams of 1972 and 1973. Keane passed away on June 1, 2001. He was 74 years old.
