Marine Animal Rescue Society - MARS "Dedicated to the conservation of marine animals through rescue, rehabilitation, research and education"

Please note that since MARS is an all-volunteer run organization we do not have positions open for employment. Also, while we have the capabilities to setup our rehabilitation Sofpool when needed, we currently so not have rehabilitation animals or an office where passionate people can regularly volunteer.

Biologists are concerned for a dolphin that has stranded twice on a Naples beach in recent weeks. Dolphins strand primarily when they are sick or injured and unfortunately this dolphin was pushed out to sea both times by citizens in the area.
Improper handling may cause serious internal injury or drowning. Keep a safe distance, marine mammals may be capable of powerful and unpredictable moves.
Help prevent marine mammal strandings:
• Obey Posted Speed Zones
• Keep Fishing Debris & Trash Out of the Water
• Observe from a Distance - Minimum 50 yards
• Never Feed or Offer Water to an Animal

We can't stress enough, the importance of leaving Wildlife alone. Stories like this can have very bad endings.

The dolphin has become accustomed to humans and is now displaying dangerous behavior. It should be avoided at all costs.

Yesterday we showed monofilament, today we show rope. Manatees are not the oceans lost and found. Unfortunately, this mama hasn't been able to be rescued yet. Having such a tiny baby would be dangerous for both the mom and her calf. Locals are keeping an eye out for her so she can be rescued at an appropriate time.
What are the chances that this was just loosely wrapped and fell off already. One could hope.
