Remember when this happened? 👋🏻[Over 50 hands raise from those who attended our May fundraiser].✋🏼 For anyone who needs a refresher or didn’t attend, this was the moment when Dr. Jose Centurion -- St. John Bosco Clinic volunteer extraordinaire and President of The Cuban Association of the Order of Malta – made a significant donation to SSJ Health Foundation. Why? Because the Order’s events benefit their medical missions, including St. John Bosco Clinic. Dr. Centurion also announced the end of summer event. The event is coming up quickly on Friday, August 21! It’s not too late to RSVP to enjoy food, music, drinks and good company – for a very worthwhile cause. Today we celebrate , which celebrates the joy of reading, exploring local independent bookstores, visiting public libraries, and spending the day completely immersed in a good book. Thanks to the donation from Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library, St. John Bosco Clinic has a children’s library in the welcome room. Some of our youngest patients can take home a free book to enjoy and support their literacy and education. Do YOU have a book you’d like to donate? Please let us know!

❤Clinics helping clinics is a heartwarming kind of special.❤

Michael Daily of Good News Care Center answered the call to action and visited St. John Bosco Clinic this week to donate two walkers after reading our newsletter. Why is this so heartwarming? Because the Good News Care Center also is a free clinic supported by the Florida Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (FAFCC) who also likely treats patients who could use these walkers. Keep up the good work, Michael and team!

Hero alert!

We love all sorts of donations, and surprise ones are especially appreciated. Today we give a huge shout out to Maylen Montoto and Florida Stevedoring, Inc. for the thoughtful gift of this CPAP machine – and the other goodies. St. John Bosco Clinic staff immediately identified a patient who could use this for sleep apnea. A new CPAP machine costs between $500 and $1,600, an unaffordable device for our patients who don’t have health insurance and live 300% or more below the Federal Poverty Level. We can’t say “thank you” enough!

ER Diversion is a proactive strategy to decrease emergency room use for non-emergency health issues, such as running out of medication or difficulty managing a chronic condition such as diabetes. Through the affiliation with Florida Assoc. of Free and Charitable Clinics, St. John Bosco Clinic participates in the FAFCC’s Emergency Room Diversion Survey. Clinic Executive Director Luz Gallardo shares this: "Participating in the FAFCC's ER Diversion program and serving on the Data Committee has been an opportunity to help demonstrate, through meaningful data, the critical role free clinics play in our healthcare system. Every day, we see how timely access to primary care keeps people healthier and helps prevent unnecessary emergency room visits. By working alongside our partners to measure these outcomes, we're building a stronger case for investing in community-based care that improves lives, reduces overall healthcare costs, and expands access for those who need it most." 🎉 Happy 34th birthday to St. John Bosco Clinic!

For more than three decades, St. John Bosco Clinic has been a place where uninsured individuals and families can access quality healthcare with dignity, compassion, and hope.

What began with a simple mission has grown into a trusted medical home for thousands of patients across Miami-Dade County. Every appointment, every volunteer, every staff member, every donor, and every partner has helped make this journey possible.

As we celebrate our 34th birthday, we're filled with gratitude for everyone who has been part of our story. Together, we've built healthier lives, stronger families, and a healthier community.

Here's to 34 years of service—and to the many lives we'll continue to impact in the years ahead.

Happy Birthday, St. John Bosco Clinic! đź’™

Local hero alert!

No one should have to choose between buying menstrual products and paying for food, housing, or transportation.

Unfortunately, period poverty is a reality for many women in our community.

We're incredibly grateful to Grace Leon, founder of Cycle of Support, for leading an initiative that provides menstrual hygiene products to patients at St. John Bosco Clinic. Through the generosity of donors, local businesses, and volunteers, hundreds of essential products have already reached uninsured women who need them most.

Read our latest blog to learn more about Grace's inspiring work, what period poverty looks like, and simple ways you can help make a difference.

Every donation—whether it's a box of pads, tampons, or liners—helps a woman access the care and dignity she deserves.
