We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Julia Turovsky to the Florida CBT Association board as Board Member at Large.

Dr. Turovsky is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 25 years of experience delivering evidence-based care to adolescents, adults, and couples.

She is the founder and director of Quiet Mind CBT, a specialty anxiety practice serving patients in Florida, New Jersey, and across the country, and the former director of the Rutgers Anxiety Disorders Clinic, where she trained graduate and postdoctoral students in evidence-based treatments. She remains a dedicated mentor and supervisor to early-career psychologists.

Julia embodies what FL-CBT is about: rigorous, evidence-based practice and a commitment to developing the next generation of CBT clinicians in Florida. We’re delighted to have her at the table.

Welcome, Julia! 🎉

We’re delighted to announce that Stephanie Breedlove, MBA, has joined the Florida CBT Association board as our Director of Outreach.

Stephanie is a mental health advocate, keynote speaker, community leader, and Clinical Outreach Representative with Discovery Behavioral Health, specializing in adolescent mental health, su***de prevention, and eating disorder treatment.

She serves on the board of the Kennedy Kids Foundation, where she chairs the Mental Health Initiatives Committee, and is the founder and co-host of Pop In with Lenin & Steph, a community initiative connecting families and professionals with behavioral health resources.

Stephanie has built her career on bringing people together — hospitals, schools, providers, community organizations, and families — and that’s exactly what FL-CBT exists to do for Florida’s CBT community.

We couldn’t be happier to have her energy and her network at the table as we grow our events and membership this year.

Welcome, Stephanie! 🎉

Men are nearly 4x more likely to die by su***de than women.

This is not a resilience issue — it’s a help-seeking gap.

Men are less likely to access care, and more likely to rely on avoidance, suppression, and isolation.

These strategies reduce distress short term, but maintain risk over time.

From a CBT lens, avoidance isn’t neutral — it reinforces the cycle.

If we want different outcomes, we have to intervene earlier and make support more accessible, more direct, and more normalized.

Mental health conditions affect over 1 billion people globally—approximately 1 in 7 individuals.

They are among the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide, yet the majority of those affected do not receive adequate care.

In Mental Health Awareness Month, the focus must go beyond awareness toward evidence-based intervention, access to care, and early identification!

Join Douglas Mennin, Ph.D., Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of Clinical Training at Teachers College, Columbia University, for an in-depth professional training on Emotion Regulation Therapy (ERT).

Many patients with distress disorders—such as generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder, especially when they co-occur—struggle to make lasting treatment gains. Heightened sensitivity to threat, persistent worry, rumination, and self-criticism often interfere with meaningful change.

In this webinar, Dr. Mennin will introduce the ERT approach, which integrates traditional and contemporary CBT, experiential therapies, and affective science to address these challenges at their core.
