Before we hit the phones today, we hit up a little bit of history.

We sat down and studied Fannie Lou Hamer’s testimony about the violence, racism, voter suppression, and injustice Black people faced in Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. And honestly? A lot of it still sounds familiar today.

Different decade.
Same fight for power.
Same attacks on voting rights.
Same attempts to silence Black and Brown communities.

That’s why political education matters.
That’s why organizing matters.
That’s why we phone bank.

Because change doesn’t happen just from posting online. It happens when people get informed, get organized, and get active.

Fannie Lou Hamer once asked:
“Is this America?”

In 2026, we’re still wrestling with that question.

Study. Organize. Mobilize. Repeat.

Stay informed. Stay organized. Stay ready.

So let’s get this straight…

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is stepping into Florida’s Congressional District 20. A historically Black seat, even though she does not live in the district!

Is it legal? Yes.

But the real question is: Is it right?

At a time when Black representation is being squeezed, redrawn, and targeted, we have to ask: why is a sitting congresswoman from another district moving politically into a seat that has been one of the few spaces where Black voters had real congressional power?

This is bigger than one candidate.

This is about whether Black communities get to choose leadership rooted in our neighborhoods, our struggles, our schools, our churches, our immigrant families, our working-class people, and our lived reality.

District 20 deserves more than political convenience.

It deserves accountability.

It deserves respect.

It deserves representation that comes from the people, not just toward the people.

BLAM is asking the question out loud:
Who gets protected when Black political power is on the line?

And who gets pushed aside?

Stay informed. Stay organized. Stay ready.

A couple of days ago, the United States government and Marco Rubio played directly at the heartstrings of the Cuban community.

Not by accident.
By strategy.

Because in South Florida, politics doesn’t just move through policy.
It moves through history.
Memory.
Pain.
Fear.
Loyalty.

That’s how emotional politics works.

This isn’t about defending politicians.
It’s about recognizing how power uses identity and trauma to maintain influence and shape public reaction.

While everybody debates online…
the political strategy is already moving in real time.

If we don’t study political behavior, media narratives, and emotional messaging, we’ll keep reacting instead of organizing.

Political education IS community defense.

STUDY THE PLAY.
BUILD THE POWER.

They never taught us this in school.

Before many of us ever heard of Juneteenth… Florida had its own Emancipation Day.

May 20th, 1865.
The day the Emancipation Proclamation was publicly read aloud on the steps of the Knott House ( now a museum) in Florida. To finally inform enslaved Black people in the state that they were free.

That history matters.

Because when people erase history… they make it easier to erase people.

This Florida Emancipation Day, we remember the struggle, honor the resilience, and continue the work of organizing our communities for the future.

Our ancestors survived slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, voter suppression, and segregation and still built communities, businesses, churches, schools, and movements from the ground up.

We owe it to them to know the truth.

What’s one thing YOU wish they taught more in school?

Happy Birthday to Malcolm X.

If Malcolm X were alive today, watching courts roll back protections, redraw maps, weaken voting rights, and chip away at civil rights… he probably wouldn’t be shocked.

He warned us:
Power never gives up power without pressure.

Malcolm would tell us this isn’t the time to be distracted.
It’s time to get organized.
To study.
To protect our communities.
To build real power.

Because freedom that isn’t defended can be taken.

His message still hits today:
Wake up. Think deeper. Move smarter. Stay ready.

Study. Organize. Build. Defend. Rise.
