Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate Julie Kennedy, whose vision helped build the foundation of the SCORES movement.
In 1994, Julie started a girls’ soccer team at Marie Reed Elementary in Washington, DC. When rain kept the team off the field, the players began writing poetry blending soccer, creativity, and community in a way that would grow into The SCORES Network.
Because of her vision and commitment, thousands of students have had the opportunity to find their voice, build confidence, and grow both on and off the field.
We’re grateful for Julie’s leadership and proud to continue her legacy by empowering the next generation of poet-athletes.

Hoy, en el Día Internacional de la Mujer, celebramos a Julie Kennedy, cuya visión ayudó a construir la base del movimiento SCORES.
En 1994, Julie comenzó un equipo de fútbol femenino en Marie Reed Elementary en Washington, D.C. Cuando la lluvia impedía que el equipo jugara en el campo, las jugadoras empezaron a escribir poesía, combinando fútbol, creatividad y comunidad de una manera que más adelante se convertiría en The SCORES Network.
Gracias a su visión y compromiso, miles de estudiantes han tenido la oportunidad de encontrar su voz, desarrollar confianza y crecer tanto dentro como fuera del campo.
Estamos agradecidos por el liderazgo de Julie y orgullosos de continuar su legado empoderando a la próxima generación de poetas-atletas.
