The Lampidis Cancer Foundation

The Lampidis Cancer Foundation The Lampidis Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation established in 2013 to help highlight and fund groundbreaking cancer research.

The fundamental science behind Dr. Lampidis’ research is to trick the hypoxic (non-oxygen consuming) cancer cells found deep in the heart of a cancerous tumor to ingest a fake sugar (a form of glucose called 2-DG) which causes the hypoxic cancer cells to starve and die. This process (glycolysis) is so fundamental, it has survived a billion years of evolution dating back to a time when there was no

oxygen in our atmosphere and the only source of energy that could be used to keep tiny microbes alive was sugar. The cancer cells that 2-DG kills are resistant to conventional chemotherapy, are the most metastatic, and are found within every solid tumor regardless of its type. Dr. Lampidis’ strategy offers a universal approach to treating all types of cancer – putting us on the brink of something that could immeasurably benefit mankind.

It’s with the deepest sadness that we mark the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Mark Phillips.

It feels both fitting and poignant that his memorial service is being held today in Miami Beach – on his birthday – a city he loved and a day that now holds even deeper meaning.

Mark was a cofounder of the Lampidis Cancer Foundation and a tireless champion of Ted’s work, raising thousands in support of research that offered hope to so many. The tragic irony is not lost on us—that he ultimately lost his own battle with the very disease he fought so fiercely to help cure.

Mark’s life was one of purpose and generosity. His belief in the power of science, of community, and of showing up for the causes that mattered – never wavered.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Olivia and his family. This photo, taken a decade ago at one of Mark’s fundraisers, is just one small glimpse of the light he brought into our lives. His legacy endures – in research, in remembrance, and in all of us who had the honor to know him. RIP Mark ###

The following is a systematic review of all the literature and evidence supporting the anti-viral properties of 2-DG, lending further credence to our hypothesis that it can be used as a prophylactic against, or treatment for COVID-19. We are in the process of putting together an international team of experts from the scientific community to accelerate this important work, and have applied to several organizations for grants to fund this research. Using 2-DG as a nasal spray, investigators at the Medical Institute in Vienna, Austria have reported potent anti-viral activity against rhino virus that causes the common cold in an animal model. We are collaborating with this group to explore the possibility that 2-DG could be effective against COVID-19, since symptoms caused by rhino virus are similar to those of coronavirus.

If it worked, 2-DG nasal spray could be used by humans to not only treat those infected by coronavirus, but as a prophylactic to block viral infection spread. In this way, what is known as "herd immunity" could be achieved similar to what vaccines such as the polio vaccine have done to wipe out the disease by eliminating susceptible individuals thereby blocking further infectivity.

A recent article from ScienceNews highlights the enormous amount of virus being generated in patients’ noses and throats (about 1,000 times as much virus as produced by SARS patients) is what makes it so contagious. Thus, if we can reduce viral titer using 2-DG, this could be immensely helpful in slowing down the spread of the disease.

As major efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic go into effect around the globe, researchers are figuring out just when patients are most contagious.

More patients are reporting encouraging results using metronomic 2-DG in fight against stage 3 and stage 4 cancer. Help Dr. Lampidis to continue his groundbreaking research by donating here:

As reported in September, the Lampidis Cancer Foundation, along with the MCS Foundation for Life, has been actively collaborating with clinics worldwide on implementing protocols using 2-DG for patients who

Encouraging Early Results From Metronomic 2-DG Trial Show Significant Reversal of Pancreatic Cancer Marker

Below is a graphic of a patient who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to the liver. The pancreatic cancer marker CA199 (blue line) which correlates with the size and growth of a major metastases, can be seen to steadily rise after an initial decline in response to conventional treatment for this disease. This rise is expected as it correlates with resistance to treatment for this disease.

However, in the presence of metronomic 2-DG (dashed orange line) we can see a significant reversal of the severe upward trend of the pancreatic marker. Although the patient is fasting (solid yellow line) and receiving gemcitabine (dashed red line) as well as phototherapy (short green line), the addition of metronomic 2-DG coincides with this downward trend of CA 199, which aligns with other patients that so far have received metronomic 2-DG.

It is still too early to determine the contribution of metronomic 2-DG to any of the patients treated to date, since they are concurrently receiving additional treatments. However, it is very promising that metronomic 2-DG treatment is correlating with positive anti-tumor effects in these patients presenting with different tumor types including sarcoma, glioblastoma and endometrial cancers. These initial results, although very preliminary, support our contention and hope that 2-DG indeed will become a universal non-toxic cancer treatment.
