As part of Miami-Dade’s long-term plan for digital, Florida Commerce is investing in construction of a digital space for South Dade residents to learn computer skills, access blazing fast internet service, and use a variety of digital devices on the premises.

This remarkable, one-of-a-kind space, and the resources inside, will help ensure that everyone—seniors, young adults, people looking for employment, and working families—have the tools and guidance they need to keep pace with a rapidly changing technological world while connecting to new opportunities.

The path to their prosperity will begin here, thanks to Florida Commerce.

And we are thrilled—absolutely thrilled—that construction is almost done. We can’t wait to properly show off this remarkable new space (which is also a “dream come true” for our executive director, Chaplain Vanessa Tinsley). 💜

It is with great pride that we announce that Bridge to Hope was selected as a recipient of a 2026 Miami Dolphins Foundation Grant.

We are deeply honored by this $5,000 investment in our work and grateful to the Miami Dolphins Foundation for its support.

This grant will help us continue expanding our Digital Learning Lab and provide programmatic support for our workforce development/education access program, including laptops for young adults in Miami-Dade County.

We are proud of how far this work has come—and even more excited about what this support will help make possible.

The stock market is near record highs. That’s good news for millions of Americans. But it’s important not to confuse a booming stock market with broad economic prosperity.

Roughly 4 in 10 American adults—about 100 million people—do not own stock, either directly or through mutual funds, 401(k)s, IRAs or similar investments.

And even among those who do own stock, the benefits are very uneven.

According to the Federal Reserve, among stock-owning families, median holdings were about $12,600 for families in the bottom half of the income distribution and $608,000 for families in the top 10%.

That is an entirely different economic experience.

Meanwhile, the questions many families are asking have little to do with the Dow:

- Can I find a decent-paying job?

- Can I afford groceries, housing, insurance, healthcare and childcare?

- Can I handle an unexpected expense?

- Can I save anything after the bills are paid?

And there are reasons to be cautious even about the booming market itself:

Job growth has weakened, long-term interest rates remain very high, and a tremendous amount of market optimism is riding on the continued success of the AI and technology boom.

None of this means the stock market doesn’t matter.

It does.

Strong companies, rising investments and growing retirement accounts are good things.

But Wall Street is only one part of the economy.

If we really want to know how the economy is doing, perhaps the better question isn’t simply:

How is the market doing?

It’s:

How are Americans doing?

Can you imagine a day without nonprofits?

Happy Monday! Today is National Nonprofit Day, and it’s a good occasion to recognize the countless people, in communities large and small, who devote themselves to helping children, older adults, struggling families, and others who need someone to show up.

Much of that work happens quietly. Often with too few resources, too few hands, and far less attention than it deserves.

Yet nonprofit staff, volunteers, donors and community partners continue to show up day after day—feeding families, caring for people, educating children, protecting neighborhoods, strengthening communities and creating opportunities where too few existed before.

Many nonprofits are rich in compassion, commitment and a genuine desire to help others, even when that kind of wealth never appears on a balance sheet.

But nonprofits are about much more than charity and kindheartedness.

They are part of the infrastructure upon which healthy communities depend. They do work that government and the marketplace cannot.

Take nonprofits away and the consequences would be felt almost immediately—in our schools, neighborhoods, hospitals, shelters, food pantries, cultural institutions and countless other places where communities come together.

So on National Nonprofit Day, we simply want to say thank you.

To the people doing this work, supporting it, volunteering for it and believing in it: our communities are stronger because you are there. 💜

A thought for the weekend:

We spend a lot of time developing knowledge, reason, judgment and analytical skill.

All of that matters.

But don’t underestimate imagination.

Knowledge helps us understand what is.
Imagination helps us see what could be.

A stronger community. A better organization. A different future for a family. A solution nobody has tried yet.

Maybe the sequence matters:
Imagine what could be. Then put knowledge, reason and skill to work making it real.

We need to talk about SNAP, because something deeply concerning is happening.

A recent article in The Atlantic, “The Coming Food-Stamp Crisis,” reports that an estimated 6 million fewer people are receiving SNAP than in January 2025.

And the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that more than 1.5 million children may have lost SNAP benefits since major changes to the program became law last year.

There's another problem coming.

Beginning in fiscal year 2028, states with high SNAP payment-error rates will have to begin paying part of the cost of benefits themselves. Florida’s 2025 error rate was 12.97%—which, if used to determine its share, could leave the state responsible for roughly $900 million in SNAP costs.

And when fewer families receive food assistance, the need for food doesn’t disappear. Increasingly, it shows up at food pantries like Bridge To Hope.

We see families trying to stretch what they have far enough to cover groceries, housing, transportation and everything else required to make it through the month.

That is why this matters to us.

The food-stamp crisis isn’t simply something that may happen someday. Parts of it are already here.

And whatever happens next, one thing seems increasingly clear: strong community food pantries are going to matter more, not less.

When the safety net gets thinner, somebody still has to be there to help catch the family that falls through.

Miami’s nonprofits are doing far more—and operating with far less—than most of us realize.

A new report from The Miami Foundation examined 1,466 organizations that participated in Give Miami Day. The findings are remarkable:

Miami-Dade’s nonprofit sector employs nearly 77,000 people and generates $20.5 billion in annual revenue.

But many of these organizations are surprisingly small. More than half operate on less than $250,000 a year. Nearly one-third have no full-time employees. More than half have three months or less in cash reserves.

In other words, nonprofits are essential to Miami’s economy and quality of life—but many are carrying out that work with tiny teams and very little financial cushion.

That is why the leadership of Rebecca Fishman Lipsey and the work of The Miami Foundation matter so much. They are helping Miami better understand, strengthen and invest in the organizations our community depends on.
