🦷 Saving Your Natural Tooth: Why Root Canal Treatment Matters

Dental implants are an excellent option when a tooth cannot be saved. However, whenever possible, our first goal is always to preserve your natural tooth.

Root canal treatment removes infection or damaged tissue from inside the tooth, helping relieve pain and prevent the infection from spreading. After the root canal, the tooth is usually protected with a crown so it can continue functioning for many years.

Some people believe that root canal treatments always fail, but the prognosis depends on several factors, including:

• How much healthy tooth structure remains
• The extent of the infection or damage
• The condition of the surrounding bone and gums
• Whether the tooth can be properly restored and protected

When a tooth has a favorable prognosis, completing a root canal and crown may allow you to keep your natural tooth for a long time.

Extraction and dental implants are considered when the tooth is severely damaged, fractured, or cannot be predictably restored. But when saving the tooth is possible, preserving your natural tooth is usually the best first choice.

Natural teeth are worth saving whenever possible. Early evaluation and treatment can make a significant difference.
