Established in 1924, The Cushman School’s first class of just 12 students took place on the porch of Dr. Laura Cushman's home. Today, the school consists of the main campus nestled in a beautifully landscaped historic pocket of international Miami as well as state-of-the-art high school building nearby on Biscayne Blvd. The non-denominational school offers a challenging academic environment for a
diverse ethnic and socioeconomic population of children from preschool through 12th grade with a rich traditional heritage and a culture of camaraderie and warmth. With rigorous academics, state-of-the-art technology, innovative performing arts programming, daily physical education, unique global studies exposure and many exciting field trips built into an ever-evolving curriculum, The Cushman School continues to stand apart with an identity linked to excellence. Our philosophy is one focused on virtue, responsibility, and respect for self and others. It is an approach that nurtures intellectual, physical, and spiritual growth in the student. And while we certainly pride ourselves in our ability to adapt to new educational philosophies, and to grow our curriculum based on the needs of our students, it is the very foundation of our school—the Cushman philosophy—that we base our daily practices on proudly.
