Fertile Earth is here to help spread the word about the benefits of composting and we're excited to announce that ULTRA will be composting this year! We're looking for a few more volunteers to help us capture the most food we can! Four hour shifts are from 6 - 10 pm and 10 pm - 2 am this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dependability is a must!

We’d like to highlight a resource, a friend, and fellow crusader, The Worm Whisperer (aka Mr.Zarron Brown). He’s your go to for all things and provides education in schools and for individuals and farms as well. He can supply you with his “Plant Mojo” a worm based all natural liquid plant food, as well as the traditional work castings. Did you know that when organic materials break down in the landfill they produce Methane which is a green house gas? But when you compost right no gases are produced. Adding organic material back to the soil or keeping organic material in the soil keeps carbon in the soil rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. Carbon is great for soil but not so great for our atmosphere. So when your food scraps and yard waste are composted they not only reduce your own waste, and help your own soil it also helps the earth stay cool!

We love our Compost Map, it pin-points places around Miami that you can drop off your food-scaps and feel good knowing they'll be composted. Two of the locations (Miami Beach Botanical Garden & Smart Bites) are our own CompostHubs and we are very proud of these. There are a few other places on the map we encourage you to check out. But the truth is we'd like this map to be so full of dots you have to take a minute to think about which drop-off spot you'd like to go to this week. Help us out, what places allow food scraps to be dropped off that we can add to the map? On the flip side, if you know a garden or urban farm that would like to expand their composting efforts and have it be part of a community space, please do let us know!
