"Los Niños De La Luz" Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, approved by the IRS in December 2004. This charitable foundation was founded by Maria M. Luis, a grandmother of 17 children. She decided to start the foundation when one of her grandchildren was diagnosed with autism at the age of 18 months in 2001. This diagnosis dramatically changed the grandmother's life, and sh

e then realized that our society was not properly equipped to fulfill the needs of these special children and their families. She realized that there were simply little, if any, resources for them to turn to. For this reason, she decided to help by starting a foundation to help autistic children in which therapy, musical programs, and extracurricular after-school activities could be provided to autistic children, free-of-charge. Soon after beginning her efforts, she realized that their were many other children in our community which were in desperate need as well. Therefore, she then decided to expand and extend her efforts toward aiding not only autistic children, but to abused and underprivileged children as well.
