Meet Tori….

Hello everyone, my name is Tori Cooper and Cystic Fibrosis has been a part of my life since I was diagnosed at 6 months old. I never knew anyone else with CF until the summer of 2001 when I met a close friend in my own back yard. Her grandmother lived behind my childhood home and we instantly became friends when we found out we both had CF. She introduced me to Sunny Shores Sea Camp and truly the rest is history. I have been attending camp since I was 13 and now at 37, I have seen all my dreams come true. I married my husband Scott in 2015 surrounded by family, friends and many of my fellow CF campers. Our fur baby Violet has been our only child for almost 12 years. Campers have become my true friends and family in love. We have celebrated weddings, birthdays, funerals, the good, the bad and the ugly together. My childhood dream was to become a teacher and I have stomped on any nay sayers that came my way. I have been teaching preschool for 10.5 years with well over 170 little learners coming into my heart along the way. Five years ago, I became one of the most important roles in my life, an auntie - “Titi”. Although I absolutely love my 3 older nieces, I spoil my little nieces and nephew and it makes my heart so filled with the love they share. CF has given me highest of highs and lowest of lows but I continue to overcome every day. In January 2020 I started Trikafta and it by far changed my health and my life. Now through the progression and switch to Alyvtrek I can do almost anything. If I can encourage anyone through my story, I’d just like to say that YOU can make change in our world. You are here for a reason and never let yourself forget that you are amazing!

Meet Elle Jusst..

Born and raised in Miami, Elle is a double lung and kidney transplant recipient who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at just 4 ½ months old. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Public Health and is passionate about addressing health disparities, advocating for patient rights, CF awareness, and the importance of organ donation.

Beyond her studies and advocacy, Elle loves to dance, practice yoga, travel, cook, and spend time with friends and family. She also enioys scary movies and has a strong appreciation for fashion! Elle lives in Miami with her husband James and their two furry children, Skye and Luna.

What camp means to Elle in her own words-

“I live with an invisible illness. I have never been ashamed or afraid to talk about Cystic Fibrosis, transplants, and Diabetes. From scars to feeding tubes I have always worn them proud. I have never let my illnesses define who I am. There are days where I am on top of the world, and there are days where starting my day is challenging.
SSSC is not only a place for CF patients to learn, but it's a safe space and a community where I have always felt welcomed and loved. A place where everyone fits in and can share their own journeys and experiences of living with this horrible disease.”

Sunny Shore Sea Camp has had thousands of camper's over the years since it's inception in 1980. Here is a chance for you to meet some of them.
Please meet Ashley Audet Kennen with her heartfelt words…

"I've been coming to camp since I was 5½ - so about 36 years now! My favorite memories are coming back to camp every year and it feeling like we've only been gone for a day. There's too many to pick just one, but I always loved doing skit night back in the day!

I had a double lung transplant two years after getting married, and i'm now 15 years post. My husband is my best friend, and I love that he never babies me - I think that makes me stronger sometimes. We fostered six kids about three years after my transplant and adopted four of them. We've also raised four therapy dogs who were my first babies.

I've been blessed with a supportive family, and my CF friends have been as close as family through the years. Even when some of my fellow CFers have passed, I still consider their families like my own. I would drop anything and everything to make sure they're all okay.

My little family has bonded with everyone at camp in a way that can't be broken, and that's probably the biggest blessing CF and that's probably the biggest blessing CF and Sunny Shores has given me. 💛
