One of our community members asks, "How can I start to nurse my toddler less?" What suggestions do you have for them?

Well said Barbara. Well said.

Well said Barbara. Well said.

We’re often asked about our baby’s habits—how they’re sleeping, how much they’re eating, how much weight they’ve gained. It can be draining to constantly compare. As Barbara reminds us, life with your baby becomes far more joyful when you let go of comparisons and simply focus on them.

[Image: A parent holding the hand of their infant while nursing in side-lying position. Text: "I finally realized that if I would just abandon myself to my baby and relieve myself of expectation (usually other people's) of how she 'should' behave, then everything would be so much easier and so much more enjoyable and I just wouldn't care what other people thought. This took a few months, but it changed my life." - Barbara ]

One of my most common myths to clear-up for new families!

One of my most common myths to clear-up for new families!

Were you told never to wake a sleeping baby? Newborns are often very sleepy for many reasons. It’s best to wake your baby for feedings every 2 to 3 hours around the clock until they’ve regained their birth weight and are gaining weight consistently.

[Image Description: Infographic featuring a photo of an infant being held by its mother. Text reads, "Myth: You should never wake a sleeping baby. Fact: During the newborn period, many babies are very sleepy and may not wake on their own to eat. Until a consistent pattern of weight gain has been confirmed, parents should wake their baby to feed a minimum of eight times in 24 hours."]

Looking for an analog way to track what side you last fed on? Try the hair tie hack! Don't use hair ties? Try a flexible bracelet or a large rubber band.

[Image Description] Photo of colorful hair ties. Text reads, "Can't remember what side you left off on? Keep a hair tie on our wrist. Swap it to the side you're nursing on. No more guessing!” The La Leche League USA logo is on lower right.

Thank you for having us again Baptist Health West Kendall Baptist Hospital.
And thank you to my 5yo for lending me his Sonic again to assist with explaining breastfeeding positions (I requested Minecraft Steve but apparently he and my 5yo had movie plans). making it happen in a world with no baby dolls!

Did you find your confidence a little shaken that second night? You're not alone.

[Image Description] Photo of a sleeping infant. Text reads, "Nobody told me...the second night after your baby is born can be really difficult! The second night can take many parents by surprise. After a calm and mostly peaceful first night, some babies experience what’s known as “Second Night Syndrome,” a period when they seem to be fully waking up to life outside the womb." The LLL USA logo is in the bottom right corner.
