Pelican Harbor Seabird Station is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured or orphaned brown pelicans, seabirds and other native wildlife; and the preservation and protection of these species through educational and scientific means.

A single discarded hook or a few feet of tangled line can cost a bird its ability to fly, fish, or survive. For seabirds this kind of debris is one of the most common and preventable threats they face.

You can help: use monofilament recycling bins when you see them, and if there is none, take your used fishing gears with you. If you hook a bird by accident, don’t cut the line. Call us so we can help. 💙

This Belted Kingfisher came in after she hit a window 😔
But she is strong and resilient, and after a couple of days she was already ready to go! And she was faaaast! 🥹💙

Gopher Tortoise 2279 is proving that slow and steady really does win the race 🐢💚
She arrived in very serious condition and refused to eat for so long that we were preparing to place a feeding tube. Then she surprised us all by starting to eat on her own! She’s been getting stronger every day and will be heading home very soon.
Every gopher tortoise counts. The species is listed as threatened in Florida and considered endangered by some leading conservation organizations. Their burrows shelter more than 350 other species, so helping one tortoise means helping an entire ecosystem. Let’s protect them 💚

Every piece of trash pulled from the water is one less threat to the wildlife that calls it home.

Yesterday, our community showed up for International Coastal Cleanup 2026 kayaking and combing the banks of Little River until we’d collected an incredible 303 lbs of trash.

Huge thanks to VolunteerCleanup.org for organizing this county-wide effort, bringing together more than 70 cleanup sites across Miami-Dade in a single push. And to Church By The Sea for showing up ready to work, Milam’s Markets | Miami Grocery Store for sponsoring the day, Miami-Dade Parks & Recreation for helping haul it all away, and to every single person who helped making this space safer for wildlife 🤍
