No matter where we come from or what we look like, each of our voices matters, and every family deserves a neighborhood that allows them to thrive.

☀️ Good jobs, strong public schools, stable housing, and local resources are essential to healthy communities.

🧡 That is what the people of Allapattah deserve, and why we’re excited to announce that Power U, Miami Workers Center, and Allapattah YMCA are coming together for the Allapattah People’s Assembly on June 20th.

🔥 The Allapattah People’s Assembly is a space where working families who live and work here can build the strength to tackle issues of health and affordability together. Neighbors will come together to talk about what’s going on in the neighborhood, share resources, find community, and actions they’re taking to create solutions. And it wouldn’t be the same without you! We’re uniting as a community to put working families first, not greedy developers or corporations.

What’s going on at Miami Jackson & Miami-Dade public schools ⁉️

Corporate school Success Academy, with approval from the School Board, plans to “co-locate” within Miami-Dade County public schools including Miami Jackson, putting private profit before students, teachers, and families.

Rather than fighting to get our neighborhood schools the resources needed for children and educators to thrive and succeed, those in power are selling our public education system for parts. They call it “progress” or “hope”, as they take the public’s resources - our neighborhood schools - and give them to private corporations.

Students, families, and educators at Jackson and across MDCPS deserve better, and we’re willing to fight for it.

Caring for our neighbors is our best protection against injustice ✊🏽

This past weekend we celebrated Good Neighbor Day in Allapattah by talking to our neighbors about what we all deserve to experience in our community: stability, safety, and dignity. Residents of Allapattah and across Miami-Dade need real solutions to the affordability crisis - that’s why we’re coming together on June 20th for the Allapattah People’s Assembly. Save the date! Details coming soon.

Thank you for having us and organizing a beautiful event! Si se puede!

Every child deserves the freedom to learn and pursue their dreams in a great public school - regardless of ability, where they live, or what they look like.

But now, backed by corrupt politicians and billionaires and under the guise of “school choice”, our public schools are being sold for parts to corporate schools thirsty for land, infrastructure, and expansion without public oversight ❌

In the Miami Times, Antonio “Tony” White, President of United Teachers of Dade, breaks down the illusion of school choice and the truth behind charter co-location. The corporate takeover of our neighborhood schools isn’t about choice, it’s about greed 💰

Every child deserves the freedom to learn & pursue their dreams in a great public school – regardless of ability, where they live, or what they look like.

For years, hard-working families have bankrolled charter operators through voucher programs while our neighborhood schools go unfunded. Corrupt politicians rigged the rules, gave the illusion of “choice”, and are now selling our public schools for parts to Success Academy.. They call it “hope”, when it’s really a HEIST💰.

Without chance for public input, and with the support from the MDC School Board, the New York-based corporation announced plans to occupy five Miami-Dade public schools: Miami Jackson, North Miami, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, Westland Hialeah, and Homestead Senior High.

Educators, parents, students, community members – this impacts all of us. Enough corporate greed. Hands off our schools! ❌

Take action with us at the next School Board Meeting on WEDNESDAY, MAY 13 @ 11am
1450 N.E. Second Avenue, Miami. Public comment begins at 1pm.

Bringing this back! Just like we see happening to our public schools and childcare centers, the same privatization playbook is unfolding across the country right now in our airports: starve a public service of funding, then use the chaos to justify handing our resources over to corporations and agencies built for profit and policing instead of protecting people.

Read more about privatization below ⬇️

‼️Public schools, childcare, and even our energy bills, why does everything feel like it’s decreasing in quality AND harder to afford⁉️

The answer? Privatization. And no, it’s not about “choice” or “competition”, it’s about starving public services of funding, manufacturing a crisis that generates public consent, so corporations and billionaires can profit. ⚠️

So let’s break it down: What is privatization? How does it show up in our daily lives? And why should we care? Swipe to learn more 📚

🗣️ “That’s the standard technique of privatization: defund, make sure things don’t work, people get angry, you hand it over to private capital.” — Noam Chomsky
