On August 20th, 2025 the invisible wound took Ofc. Ben Smith.
Not while wearing his Marine uniform. Not while he was serving his Barron community.
He battled a war no one knew about, that took him away from his wife and son.
One of the cruelest parts of su***de is that it often steals people who have no idea how deeply they are loved. Ben never got to see the tears that would be shed after he was gone. He never got to hear the stories people would tell about him. He never got to know how many lives he changed, how many people he inspired, or how many hearts he filled simply by being here.
May we honor Ben not only through our grief but through our compassion for one another. Let us check on our friends, support our brothers and sisters in service, and remind those who are struggling that they do not have to face their battles alone.

Though his watch has ended, Ben's legacy lives on—in the lives he touched, the community he served, and the family he loved so deeply.
Semper Fi. Rest easy, Officer Smith. Your duty is done. We have the watch from here.

This year's Ride For The Joes we continue to keep Ben in our hearts and ride for Ben's wife and son in honor of Ben.
