William H. Turner Technical Arts High School has an Agriscience Academy that allows students of the Miami FFA Chapter the opportunity to show a market lamb, pig, or steer at the Miami Dade County Youth Fair. Each of us invests money and sacrifice their weekday evenings, weekends, and holidays to care and prepare their animals for the fair.
On March 12, 2020, The Miami Dade County Youth Fair was canceled under an emergency directive from Miami-Dade County Carlos Gimenez due to the pandemic of COVID-19.
As students excited to show and auction off our projects we understood the importance of the safety of the public but were disappointed because we were not able to show and sell out market animals this year at the Miami Dade County Youth Fair.
As a result, we decided to have a market show for each animal and an online auction. Each student created a video showing their animals for the market show and another video for the auction. Although the market show and auction are not the same as in person, it is the best and safest solution for everyone. We are hoping that this auction is successful for the students so that they are encouraged to continue to learn educational skills through their SAE projects in the upcoming years.
