On December 4, the Japan-America Society of Miami/South Florida (JASMSFL) closed out the year with a Bōnenkai, or “forget-the-year” gathering, hosted at the Coral Gables Museum. Guests came together in a spirit of friendship and cultural appreciation, reflecting on the past year while welcoming the promise of the new one.

A highlight of the evening was the extraordinary performance by Master Inami Woodcarver Nambu Hakkun, who shared his artistry with attendees. His demonstration brought centuries of Japanese craftsmanship to life, offering a rare glimpse into the precision, beauty, and cultural depth of traditional Inami woodcarving.

Guests enjoyed the performance and the warmth of fellowship that defines the Society’s mission: strengthening ties between Japan and South Florida.

The event was generously sponsored by Becker & Poliakoff and Emergent Global Investments, and made possible through the collaboration with Poiesis, with support from the The Japan Foundation, New York and The Tokyo Club.

If you are inspired by Japanese culture and eager to explore educational programs, cultural events, and community connections, we invite you to join the JASMSFL. Membership opens the door to opportunities to deepen your understanding of Japan while building lasting friendships in South Florida. Click on the link to learn more: https://jasmsfl.org/membership/
