We believe optimal health begins with the essential molecule of life that is needed by every living thing. Hand-in-hand-with scientists, educators and local communities, we support the water research and education that is vital for our future. EDUCATION:
- In partnership with Miami Dade County Public Schools and the Foundation for the New Education Initiatives, we dedicated our first-ever program
to generating community impact through water science education by supporting nine Title 1 / STE(A)M designated elementary schools–and benefiting their 4,405 students–throughout the 2021-2022 school year .
- In 2023, the Frost Science Museum and Weo Foundation will be combining health and science education to take informal science education to Title 1 schools across South Florida in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). This initiative will create professional development initiatives and resources for teachers that will bridge formal and informal chemical education, empowering young learners to participate in scientific inquiry and build a more sustainable future. RESEARCH:
- In collaboration with the Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University, our first research program will be assessing the quality of water used in field crops (Vegetables, Citrus, Strawberries, Peanuts, Tomatoes, Subtropical Fruit Trees, Ornamentals) and in animal farms (Beef Cattle, Dairy, Swine, Equine, Chickens). Different quality parameters will be evaluated, including physical parameters, metals, inorganic ionic compounds, volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and biological organisms in 30 farms. This project will provide an overview on the quality of water used in the agriculture sector for different commodities including crop and animal farms throughout the state of Florida.
