This evening I want to recognize the tireless efforts of Chief Armando Guzman, the Miami Springs Police Department, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle’s office, City Attorney’s Espino and Sera, and the team at the City Manager’s Office, led by William Alonso.
As recently as Monday evening, residents had come together to complain publicly about the prolonged criminal activity occurring at the Runway Inn. What may have seemed as inaction on the part of the city, we now know, was Operation Spring Cleaning, a methodical criminal investigation that culminated in a multi-agency raid of the hotel on Monday night which resulted in numerous arrests. Based on the information gathered throughout the investigation, the City was able to take civil enforcement action against the Runway Inn, effectively closing it down.
I could not be prouder of the coordinated efforts of our city officials for having taken meaningful action on behalf of our residents. This is just the first step in our plans to revitalize this area of the 36th street business corridor.

With Governor DeSantis giving the green light for Miami-Dade and Broward counties to move into Phase 2 on Monday, I want to praise the efforts of just a few of our local businesses who adapted, in the face of hardship, to these challenging times and found a way to serve the community despite the COVID-19 restrictions.
Great thanks also go out to the City of Miami Springs for allowing local restaurants the flexibility to reinvent themselves and stay afloat.

On this Patriot's Day, we remember the lives lost on that fateful morning, 19 years ago.
We also honor those who sacrificed their lives in the rescue, recovery, and subsequent military response to the September 11th attacks.
God Bless America 🇺🇸

Great reason for hope after yesterday’s Board of County Commissioner’s Meeting.
Mayor Gimenez specifically mentioned that he was hearing the requests of citizens who were asking for the Centralized Detention Facility to be far away from residential areas.
Our County Commissioners, led by Rebecca Sosa and Steve Bovo, introduced an amendment that will require any expansion to be away from residential areas. The item was passed and requires Corrections to come up with alternate sites that meet this new requirement. Keep emailing your County Commissioners, our voices are being heard!
