For over 60 years, Troop 305 has been leading generations of Scouts through its excellent program; producing numerous Eagle Scouts and giving young men the life skills, fun memories, and distinctive Scout confidence that will last the rest of their lives. OUR MISSION
Our mission is to deliver the BSA's program: to “prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by ins
tilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and the Scout laws."Every boy who has been, and will be, in Troop 305 can
achieve meaningful personal growth and character development. SCOUTING PROGRAM
Leadership is a vital part of the Scouting program. To prepare Scouts for leadership roles, we employ the training guidelines and principles from the national Boy Scouts of America program in our ILST course (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops) for scouts and the adults. Scouts that complete the training are eligible to participate in NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training), a more advanced program designed to provide Scouts with the leadership skills and experience to use in their troops and
in any situation demanding leadership of self and others. We further emphasize leadership development through the patrol method, outdoor skills, and citizenship training. As Robert Baden-Powell said, “The patrol method is not a way to operate a Boy Scout troop—it is the only way.” We are fully aligned with this core principle; boy-led, youth leadership is fundamental to our entire program. Scouts that have been elected for leadership positions run the troop; they decide the who, what, where, when, and how of every outing. ADVANCEMENT
To climb to the rank of Eagle, the boys must prove they have the skills and the drive to become a leader. The beginning ranks of Tenderfoot and Second Class teach the boys essential skills for camping and outdoor life. First Class further hones these skills and prepares them for their future leadership roles. From there, scouts demonstrate their leadership skills, self-discipline, and initiative as he continues through Star, Life, and finally Eagle. OUTDOOR PROGRAM
Troop 305 prides itself on our outdoor program which is designed to challenge Scouts and further develop leadership qualities. Our annual program features camp-outs almost every month in state and national parks as well as various other activities including troop shoots, bike hikes, backpacking trips, or canoe runs. Every summer, the boys have the opportunity to attend a world class summer camp, like the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia and Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia, which allows for other unique activities like white water rafting, zip-lining, and horseback riding. Troop 305's adventures are as limitless as our Scouts desire and imagination. OUR LEADERSHIP
Troop 305 has a very active and well trained adult leadership core. These engaged parents are joined together In their commitment to realize the finest possible program for all of the boys. They are aligned with the Boy Scouts of America principles, and the Scout’s own vision for their Troop. Our adult leaders act as mentors that guide the boys and ensure a safe and enjoyable environment. In addition, some parents have worked to acquire training in First Aid, and CPR. Our Scoutmaster and most of our Assistant Scoutmasters have also received Scoutmaster training and a few completed Woodbadge. Every adult who interacts with the boys must also complete the comprehensive Boy Scouts of America Youth Protection Training program and Virtus Training required by our Charter St.
