Celebrating incredible educators makes our community stronger week after week 📚

We're proud to shine a spotlight on our Teacher of the Week, Sonya McIntyre, a dedicated first-grade teacher at Leisure City K-9. With ten years of experience and specialized Orton-Gillingham training under her belt, Sonya constantly goes above and beyond to build strong literacy foundations and inspire her students to become confident readers.

Through Miami Loves Teachers, a weekly $1,000 award is given to an exceptional educator for classroom supplies. You can easily submit a nomination for yourself or an inspiring colleague by heading over to miamilovesteachers.org.

We're so grateful for the continuous support of our wonderful partners: M-DCPS, Capital One Orange Bowl, and the College Football Playoff Foundation (). 🧡

The $1,000 Teacher of the Week is back for the 2026-27 school year. 🍎

We're thrilled to kick off the year by honoring Jamie Gonzalez from Whispering Pines Elementary School as our very first winner. Jamie's an FIU alumna with 11 years of teaching experience who's all about helping students build confidence and thrive.

Each week, one outstanding educator receives $1,000 in classroom supplies. Sign up for Miami Loves Teachers and nominate yourself or a colleague at miamilovesteachers.org. 🔗

Special thanks to our partners: College Football Playoff Foundation (), Capital One Orange Bowl, and M-DCPS. 🧡

Our Food Forests for Schools team kicked off the new school year at Twin Lakes Elementary in Hialeah. They met with so many amazing students and their families. 🏫💚

Parents and kids got a look at (and a taste of) how our Food Forests bring hands-on learning, science, and nutrition directly into the classroom. 🥦🔍 To help welcome everyone back, families went home with fresh food forest clippings, seeds to plant, and fun giveaways. 🌱🎁

Special thanks to Angelica Herrera, Miss Universe Cuba-Holguin, for stepping in and helping out.

We’re so excited to see these young sprouts learn and grow all year long. 🐛🌾

Miami-Dade County Residents: Share Your Voice to Inform Local Decisions

You know Miami-Dade County better than anyone – what’s working, and what needs to improve? Tell us in a 15‑minute survey that will help community organizations and local decision-makers invest where it matters most.

📝 Take the survey here:
🔗CommunityWellbeingSurvey.norc.org

📊 Why participate? Communities rarely get direct input from residents about their experiences, making it difficult to know where investment is most needed. Your input will help residents, community organizations and local leaders understand what makes Miami-Dade County a great place to live and what challenges need more attention.

🤝 Our commitment to Miami-Dade County: For decades, Knight Foundation has invested in Miami-Dade County. As part of this ongoing effort, we are proud to partner with Knight Foundation to ensure that resident voices help shape the future of our community.

⏳ Act now. This study may close early once we have received the maximum number of responses, so please respond today!

✅ The survey is legitimate. The survey is being conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago. NORC is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research organization with decades of experience conducting high-quality surveys. Your responses are anonymous and confidential.
