Devoting time for family can be a bit hard these days, but if you don’t mind, I’d like to share some helpful insight using my personal life which have created PEACE in my home, and balance in both my FAMILY & Faith. 😇
It can seem absolutely impossible to incorporate regular, family devotions into our crazy days. We want to be intentional in guiding the spiritual journey of our kids but we often don’t know where to start. We barely have time to read the Bible ourselves, let alone read it with our kids.
Sound familiar?
These are the faith-building challenges facing most families today. We find it hard to fit in effective family discipleship and so we often just give up or rely on the church Sunday School lady to teach our kids about Jesus.
But we don’t have to let our busyness get in the way of planting seeds of faith in the lives of our children. Discipleship is imperative but it doesn’t have to be complicated. If you are overwhelmed at the thought of adding Bible study to your family schedule, keep it simple! Start with these no-fuss ideas that use resources you probably already have in your house.
Keep it simple😀 by Trying these simple steps:
1 – Use a storybook Bible to read your favorite story but this time, find a specific theme to apply the lesson to your lives. For example:
Creation – God’s greatness and power
Noah – Trusting God even when we don’t understand
David and Goliath – Facing our giants
Daniel – God’s faithfulness
Esther – Brave obedience
Pulling out specific, life-applicable themes from the Bible stories you’ve read a hundred times will make them come alive for you, bringing spiritual growth for yourself as you teach your family as well.
2 – Ask the question, “If you could ask God anything, what would it be?” then spend time searching the Bible in prayer for his answer to the question. Keep in mind that there may not be a clear answer but going to God with our wondering is one way we connect ourselves to him. Trust his spirit to guide your family as you explore.
3 – Read your favorite children’s book and look for spiritual themes such as friendship, sharing, being kind, etc. (This one is our favorite – so many good themes in this sweet book!) Now search for Bible verses that support the idea presented in the story. I love this idea because it teaches our children to look for God’s truth in everyday things they already enjoy.
4 – Find a kid-friendly theme from your own Bible study and bring it up at the dinner table or bedtime. Studying prayer or the book of Ephesians with your Bible study group or through a church sermon series? Ask God to show you ways to discuss the topic with your children in words they will understand. Looking for simple ways to share a faith concept with kids may even open your heart to see it a different way for yourself.
I think you got it from here...
Peace and Blessings
