Hot-Paws currently has three mini raffles going on to try to offset our many vet bills . We have incurred over $2500 in vet bills this week alone. Many dogs we just vetted are on their way to new homes in Canada!!! Thanks to those who donated the cards to help us raise funds!

Hot-Paws was back in vet clinic today, this time at Dehart Veterinary Services clinic in Ennis Texas! We brought a few dogs from Rice foster Valerie R who were in need of rabies, a Heart Worm Test, and Pro-Heart. Valkrye (aka Bubba J), Sister Viola and Blue Val all got taken care of at clinic today.. A huge thanks to Carolyn T from Flying B Pet Rescue in Ennis and the Ellis County Pet Coalition folks for spotting us some discount vouchers for clinic today! We sure appreciate the help!! Still, we had a pretty good vet bill today!! Please donate to help us cover our vet costs. These are our biggest expense comprising over 40 percent of our monthly bilks. Donation links below:. HOT-PAWS Volunteers Liz K, Carla M, Tena A, and Caitlyn S drove 28 dogs in 3 vehicles to meet rescue partners Myron and CJ from Barking Mad Animal Rescue for a transfer of dogs from Hot-Paws to Barking Mad Animal Refuge Limited in preparation for transport to homes in Eastern Canada. Lucky dogs on this transport included PorkChop, Weir, Puppy Baby, Mama Duke, Big Foot, Stewie, 5 Sheenie pups (Shane, Shasta, Shayla, Shawna, and Shellie), 4 pups from Hill County Paw Pals (Zephyr, Indigo, Cosmo, and Juniper), Ziggy, Piper (Oreo), Fritzy,, Bob, Muenster, Dolly, Charlie, Yip, Oscar(Oliver), Valhalla, Mickie, and Tori! The last had just come long for the ride and was a last minute addition! A huge thanks to HOT-PAWS fosters Liz K, Carla M, Donna M and family, Kathy V, Tena A, Betty, and Rikki F for fostering. It takes a village! We had dogs from Corsicana Animal Shelter, City of Mexia Shelter, Pet Circle Shelter, Lancaster Animal Shelter, Athens Animal Shelter and also several strays, dogs whose owners had passed and pups born from a hoarding situation. Hot-Paws had 14 dogs fixed and vetted on 03/13/26 at DeHart Vet Clinic held at the Corsicana Animal Shelter!
Our bill was about $2000 and we need help covering the costs! Several of these dogs will be headed to new homes in Canada soon! The Dehart Veterinary Services vet fell in love with the two older girls Chica and Cheeky and took them home for a trial! A huge thanks to the Humane Society of Navarro County's Erin Lea Abay and Kenzie Gonzales-Tate for letting us work in our dogs that day so they can transfer out! Five of those pups were transferred to HOT-PAWS from the Corsicana Animal Shelter earlier that week! The S pups came from a pregnant dog pulled from a hoarding situation last fall! Their mom Sheenie is already in a home in Canada and her pups will follow! Please partner with us by helping to donate towards our vet bills!

Hot-Paws said goodbye this past week to long-time HOT-PAWS volunteer, foster, adopter, supporter and friend Billy Chancellor of Fairfield. Billy began volunteering with HOT-PAWS in 2020 when he wanted to try fostering for us. His first foster was Twister, a shy puppy who was later adopted to a family with kids! Billy later fostered and adopted Sugar, who was the love of his life and spent much of her time in Billy's lap
He later fostered and adopted Jake. And fostered Tiny Buddy briefly last year (he recently went to a great home in Canada!). Billy also cared for several cats in his neighborhood. All of his pets were spoiled!

He was a kind gentleman and we would visit each month and I would share all the latest HOT-PAWS news with him and he would share stories about Sugar, and his cats and his memories of growing up and stories of Fairfield.. Billy was 82, and although he had some health issues, his passing was unexpected. We were supposed to visit this week, but when I called and he did not answer or call me back, then I knew something was wrong.. Rest in peace my friend! You will be much missed! Prayers and condolences for his family, friends and his pets!
