We have assisted another foster family with a gift card to purchase diapers, formula, and clothing as they receive a baby into their home this week. Thank you for continuing to support those who are on the front lines caring for the children.

JAMES 127 Ministries
In January, we were informed that our JAMES127 Ministry has been selected as the 2025 sponsored charity from the SIU Credit Union Metropolis branch.
Staff members donate $2/week to be able to dress casually on Fridays, and that money is shared each year among five charities that each branch chooses to “sponsor.”
In 2024, the Metropolis SIU Credit Union awarded over $2700 to each of their five charities. Their 2025 donation to James127 will be received in January of 2026.
The James 127 Ministries provides gift cards and urgent assistance to foster and kinship families in Massac, Pope, and Johnson Counties. In total, we distributed over $2,700 dollars last year.
In Massac County alone, there are over 90 children in the foster care system at this time. The majority of children arrive through DCFS with nothing more than their clothes on their backs. JAMES127 assists in providing immediate needs such as clothing, shoes, bedding, and baby supplies.
By contributing financially to the JAMES127, you are empowering others as they care for the most vulnerable, often traumatized, and victimized children in our communities.
Thank you for your continued support of the JAMES 127 Ministries as we attempt to live out the command to look after the orphans in their distress.

This week we had a request for bunks with a trundle bed and mattresses. This foster family has three children- and just took three more foster children so the siblings could stay together. Praise the Lord we had the funds. The children will sleep in beds this weekend. Thank you for supporting foster and kinship families in our area!

August has been a big month for the JAMES127 Ministry. We have assisted five families with over $1,000 total in assistance for bunk beds, travel expenses to Cardinal Glennon, clothing, diapers baby equipment, and much more. As school resumes, reporting and investigating suspicions of neglect and abuse becomes greater, resulting in more children being removed from their homes. When children are removed, they often leave without anything- just the clothes on their backs. Many find refuge in the homes of family members or foster families. The immediate need for those children can be a great burden and expense. Thank you for continuing to support our JAMES127 Ministries.

MCDAC is looking to start a Drug-Endangered Children Alliance in Massac County. Basically, it would be a recurring meeting of various persons, representing various groups, discussing how we can reduce trauma on children that stems from their parents/guardians using drugs. This would include DCFS, Schools, Hospitals, etc.. We have been asked to provide a representative from JAMES127 to be at the discussion table as the alliance forms and determines its vision and mission, as well as how to best serve the children. Holly Windorst is heading this up. If you would like to serve as an advocate for children within this alliance and represent our JAMES127 ministry, please let Dena Hopkins know. The JAMES127 Ministry supports and assists foster families as they foster children. The first meeting is tentatively set for July 25 at lunchtime.

JAMES127 Ministries has blessed four families this spring including two who came to us through Kristina Cromeenes at MES. We have received wonderful thank you notes from Kristina. In each case, the families received children who had many needs and next to nothing in their own possession. One was an infant, and the others were toddler and elementary ages. Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity!

JAMES127 has been a true Christmas blessing to many already this month. We have helped buy shoes, socks, and other necessities for four children who recently went into the care of their grandfather. We also have distributed $100 gift cards to several foster families to purchase Christmas items, thru recomme dations of Family Guardian Services. In addition, we gifted a $200 gift card, diapers, and baby gear to a young mother who took custody of a newborn. Praise the Lord that we may be of service to the orphans and be the light into the world. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

We are thankful for the generous support of JAMES127 Ministries. This week we are delivering three $100 gift cards to foster families to assist with Christmas purchases. Thank you for sharing your love and support to these families. May the children grow to know the love of Christ. I am told there are 75 families in foster care in our DCFS area who are in need of a $100 sponsorship for Christmas gifts. If you would like to help, please speak to Amanda Holbrook or Dena Hopkins.

We have blessed three families this month already. One was in need of assistance with a refrigerator. Hers went out and she was using coolers. She's has a foster child and a disabled child. Two others received assistance with clothing, diapers, wipes, blankets, and gift cards for supplies. In both cases, the families took custody of a toddler overnight. Thank you for being part of this blessing to support and encourage foster families as they protect the most vulnerable.

This week we blessed another foster family with a $300 Visa gift card, The child was very much in need of glasses as well as clothing. Our donors have remained faithful to this ministry as it continues to serve our local area and the fostering families who are providing for the children in need. We have sent out most of our infant clothing for the fall and have given out several layette sets that have been donated. We have another 8 Layette sets arriving in October. There seem to have been many infants and small children entering the system recently. Please pray for these children and those providing for their needs.

We have assisted another Foster Family who will be receiving a newborn any time now. Today they received a Layette set, blanket, diapers, pacifiers, and a $200 gift card. While we have some high chairs, bouncing sets, and other such items, they had those. Thank you for your commitment and generosity to JAMES127 as we encourage and support fostering and kinship families.

JAMES127

We are not all called to become a foster parent, but we are called to do what we can — and, we can all do something.

The James Project is a not-for-profit Christian ministry beginning in Metropolis, meeting at the First United Methodist Church. We believe we can live out James 1:27 by helping foster parents and the children they serve by offering community, assistance with physical needs, and providing financial support.

We pray to:

· Begin a 1:27 Closet to allow foster families to obtain clothing, diapers, formula, beds, and toys in emergency and long term care giving. We will need volunteers to clean, organize, and maintain this closet ministry.
