Amidst the economic crisis in Lebanon, fuel and gas oil have become scarce and due to this, basic necessities such as heating and driving are now considered rarities. Winters have grown harsh and people are finding it hard to survive the cold in these unaffordable conditions. The founders of Atallah Foundation self-funded gas oil to 24 families, which includes widows, elderly folks, and people with disabilities, in Deir El Ahmar to help them keep warm during the cold winter season.

We would like to start off by thanking everyone who contributed to the gofundme fundraiser for Rita Abou Eid Sfeir’s Cancer treatment. We were able to raise $3,790.00 for her bone marrow transplant at AUH in Lebanon. In addition to this, the founders of Atallah Foundation added a personal contribution of $6000.00.
As of now, Rita still needs our help. She still requires $7,200.00 in order to pay the remaining balance, as well as the medical expenses of her surgery. Rita is medically ready to perform her surgery at AUH, but she must pay the remaining balance in full before hospital admission. This surgery is Rita’s only hope. Please help save her life.
For those who are interested in helping Rita Sfeir directly, you may reach her at +961 71 956 144. she is also available via Facebook messenger.

A devout mother of two, Rita Sfeir is a survivor💪🏼 who needs our help. We launched this GoFundMe campaign (https://gofund.me/d6934969) to help her sustain her battle in these trying times in Lebanon.

Three years into a devastating economic crisis, the situation in Lebanon remains on a downhill slope with more and more economic sectors collapsing, sn*******ng the magnitude of the economic woes. Severe shortages in food, clothing, fuel, and medicines remain a serious threat to the lives of the majority of the Lebanese population. With a surge in healthcare prices, following the devaluation of the local currency by more than 90%, as well as the global market disruption of the Coronavirus pandemic, treatment and medicines are out of reach of the of the populace—with more than 70% under the poverty line. These shortages are also impacting the economically favoured households. The increasing number of essential outpatient and inpatient medication missing from the local hospitals and pharmacies, has made it virtually impossible to obtain these medicines domestically; and the only solution is to import them—a very costly solution, costing anywhere from 10 to 20 times the local rate.

The story of Rita Sfeir is a testament to this tragic situation. Suffering from Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer of plasma cells that are found in the bone marrow, Rita’s battle against this life-threatening disease was only made possible with the help of a specialized drug, no longer available in Lebanon.

Importing a month-long supply of this medication will require Rita to shell-out USD8000, a sum she cannot afford. Unfortunately, this costly medication is not the only obstacle thwarting Rita’s fight for her life; this drug treatment is only a necessary precursor to a very expensive medical operation: an autologous transplant procedure.

“The autologous stem cell transplant is an intricate and costly procedure,” explains Dr. George Khoueiry, a board member at Atallah Foundation USA, “during which Rita’s own stem cells are removed from the bone marrow or peripheral blood before the transplant. The cells are stored until they are needed for the transplant. Then, she will receive a follow-up treatment such as high-dose chemotherapy, sometimes with radiation, to kill the cancer cells. When this is complete, their stored stem cells are given back into their blood through a vein.”

When the heartrending story of Rita Sfeir reached us at the Atallah foundation, we decided to launch this campaign, and help save the life of this dutiful mother of two. As always, we are relying on the humanity and generosity of people like you, who want to take part in the saving of a human life🫂.

We are so touched to receive this heartwarming letter from a mother we’ve helped who was unjustly fired from her job due to the economic collapse in Lebanon. She couldn’t afford her son’s education, and we were more than happy to be able to help him stay in school so now he’s able to graduate this fall.

Stay posted for upcoming fundraising events!

Christmas is the season of giving. With the current economic situation in Lebanon, kids are deprived of the gifts under their tree. That’s why Atallah Foundation USA is trying our best to make sure these kids in Lebanon feel nothing less of Christmas spirit.

A simple act of kindness can help save the lives of the less fortunate.

Upon seeing this lady’s photo on social media, we knew we had to help. After making the right calls and investigations, we were able to locate her in the Beirut area and offer her shelter for a full year, as well as two food-boxes to sustain her during the upcoming cold season.

You too can help change the lives of those who are in dire need of aid.
