💙 Patient Spotlight: Elaina 💙

When 13-year-old Elaina began experiencing persistent pain in her leg, she and her family never imagined it would lead to a diagnosis of Stage 4 Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer.

After making the long drive to Manning Family Children's, Elaina found a care team that gave her family hope from the very beginning. Throughout months of treatment, the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders became a source of strength and compassion every step of the way.

As Elaina's mom, Kimberly, spent countless days at the hospital, the Al Copeland Foundation Patient Assistance Fund helped relieve some of the family's financial burden by assisting with essential household expenses, allowing her to focus on what mattered most - being by her daughter's side.

"The Al Copeland Foundation helped us a lot by paying our phone bill and light bill," Kimberly shared.

Today, Elaina is 15 years old, thriving in remission, and, according to her mom, "sassy as ever." Inspired by her own journey, she has traded dreams of becoming an interior designer for a new goal: becoming a pediatric cancer doctor so she can one day help children just like she was helped.

Stories like Elaina's remind us why supporting families through every step of their cancer journey matters. 💙

💙 Patient Spotlight: Peyton 💙

In February 2024, 11-year-old Peyton was transported to Manning Family Children’s from Gulfport, MS, after experiencing a seizure and other concerning symptoms. He was later diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation causing an autoimmune deficiency.

To help stabilize his condition, Peyton began medication to manage his hemoglobin levels, but doctors determined a bone marrow transplant would be necessary for long-term recovery. In an incredible turn, his brother Acie was identified as a perfect match, and Peyton underwent a successful transplant at Manning Family Children’s on October 1, 2025.

Since then, Peyton has faced both ups and downs, but continues to show steady progress with the support of his dedicated care team - who have become like an extended family. After months of recovery, he is now growing stronger each day and preparing for the milestone moment of ringing the bell and heading home with a bright future ahead.

On May 12, Peyton and his mother, Laurie, returned home to Gulfport to continue his healing journey. We were honored to help celebrate that special day by delivering Copeland’s fried chicken as Peyton marked this incredible achievement surrounded by the people who supported him along the way.

Today, Peyton is thriving, sharing his story with others and inspiring hope wherever he goes.
