Happy Flag Day! The first Stars and Stripes flag was adopted on June 14, 1777. Our current 50-star flag was adopted on July 4, 1960.

Remember, a flag should be replaced if it shows any of the following signs:
Fraying or shredding, Severe fading, or Permanent damage, such as holes, tears, scorched areas, or stubborn stains.

You can drop off unserviceable flags to our flag box outside Post 6640, 2809 Harvard Ave., Metairie.

In observance of Memorial Day, Post 6640 conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of VFW Past National Commander Dr. Joseph Mendez. As this extended holiday weekend concludes, we are reminded to reflect upon and express our gratitude for the profound sacrifices made by all service members who answered the call.

Last week, we lost our friend Lincoln Brennan, Sr., Centenarian and US Navy Veteran (WWII, Korea). Lincoln was the last living Charter Member of Post 6640- he faithfully attended meetings for 73 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA 70005, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM. Burial to immediately follow at the Greenwood Mausoleum.

Whenever you pass Lincoln Brennan Way in Metairie, be sure to give a salute to Shipmate Brennan. 🇺🇸⚓️

Saturday, May 2nd marked the Annual VFW Day of Service, where Post 6640 members made a positive impact in the community by cleaning the war memorials at Veterans Memorial Square.

We mourn the loss of our Auxiliary Sister Audrey Rodemann. Audrey was a devoted and active member of Post 6640, having served as Auxiliary President and other roles, through this year.

We were delighted to host Post 6640 winners of the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW and VFW Auxiliary-National Organization youth programs at the most recent Post 6640 and District 2 meetings. The programs include Voice of Democracy (9-12 grade), Patriot’s Pen (6-8 grade), and Americanism (Kindergarten-5th grade). We extend our thanks to all participating students and offer congratulations to our winners, some also placing at the district and state levels, from the following schools: Brother Martin High School, St. Ann Catholic School, St. Christopher School, and Victory Christian Academy.

Members of our Post participated in VFW Post 3750 West St. Charles’ Inaugural Chili Cookoff. Commander Landon Greene’s ‘fancy’ chili took home a prize.

Metry 6640 had a successful Mid Winter Conference... two of our Post Americanism entries placed 3rd and 2nd at the state level... and we donated $600 to the Commanders special project. Thank you to all the Post members that made this happen.
