These trees do more than add beauty. They can help increase property values, provide shade, encourage outdoor activity, and create a more welcoming environment for neighbors and families.

Neighborhoods with trees are LITERALLY cooler.

As heatwaves become more frequent and intense, urban trees are one of our most powerful natural tools for cooling towns and cities.

Cities become urban heat islands when they are warmer than surrounding rural areas. Roads, pavements and buildings absorb and store heat during the day, then release it slowly after sunset. Traffic, air conditioning units and other human activity can add to the problem, while limited tree cover and green space reduce natural cooling.

Trees cool cities in three key ways: by providing shade, releasing water vapour through transpiration, and reducing the amount of heat absorbed by hard surfaces. They make streets, schools, parks and public spaces more comfortable during periods of extreme heat.

Planting the right tree in the right place is critical to help trees live longer and stay healthy.

Trees should be planted where they have enough space to grow and can get the right amount of sunlight and water. If you pick the wrong kind of tree, it might not live very long and become a nuisance that causes property damage and requires a lot of time and money to care for.

If you choose the right tree, it can grow strong and provide many other benefits for years or generations.
